I recently purchased a 22 Off Road in Lunar, waiting for it to be delivered (somewhere on a rail car right now) but I was wondering about the performance of the Turbos. I had a Mercury Cougar XR7 with a turbo (yes I'm dating myself), and also more recently a Jeep Wrangler 4 cyl with a turbo. Both vehicles had that throw you back into the seat when you stepped on it. I was really surprised at that little 4 cylinder the Jeep had - it really had the pep.

I was wondering if the Tundras had that. I took a leap of faith in buying this because my two previous Tundras were so great.

    Thanks

no test drive first? it is what it is then I guess.

I didnt feel it threw you back in the seat on my test drive. That said, there is a little turbo lag then it accelerates strongly but nothing crazy

Put it in sport mode and then floor it. You'll have fun.

I wish I could have test driven. Every dealer in the valley has 5 Tundras on their web site. You get there and all 5 in transit, and 4 already spoken for. And these are the guys gouging people on price!

But my other Tundras were great so I expect no less from this.

The jeeps low gearing likely contributed to the punchy feel. My test drive in a 22 Tundra didn’t feel overwhelming from a power delivery standpoint. Accelerated strongly, but still a 3 ton truck. Should be a strong performer and a great truck. If I needed a new truck, I would buy one. Shame it’s $10,000 more than a comparably equipped 2.5 Gen was.

From a stand-still, the acceleration is good, not great. But put it Sport mode and the ~50 to ~80 (where you you really need it for passing on 2 lane roads) is really good. Probably even better if you put a Pedal Commander on it.

I have a 1794 with the Advanced package. If you want to cruise, the Tundra is great. If you need to dodge in and out highway traffic, Sport+ is your friend!

Do they all come with sport mode or is that with the sport package or the advance package?
I bought an off road with the advanced off road package

I notice a bit of lag off the start but not bad. But holy if you are already moving even slowly and punch it your squealing tires and getting pushed back in your seat.

it’s brought more than a few grins when merging or passing.
