    Good morning,

I recently had a strut spring break on my 2015 TRD Pro, and did some research after my mechanic said he couldn’t get the part. It was horrifying news to me to find out those struts are in the neighborhood of $3,500. I’m wondering if there are cheaper, still yet safe reliable alternative struts on the market
    thanks

Yes to replace those struts with the original TRD Bilstein strut # PTR13-34140 $3500. My mechanic said that’s what it has to be replaced with but I refuse to believe that. I’m hoping here on the forum somebody has a cheaper solution

You say struts. Do you mean coil over? Check out Sparks Parts and use Tundradude34 promotion code to save a little coin. 7CF73773-D69C-44E6-82C2-292EA7328036.jpg

Yes I believe the fox TRD pro suspension replaced the bilstein’s a little while ago. I threw the whole set up in my 2015 platinum and it was pretty much plug and play. My local mechanic charge me around $400 to install all four. You could probably buy this whole set (4 shocks) for the price he’s charging you for one coil over. I suggest you reach out to Sparks Parts they’re pretty good there. You can call the parts department or just chat with them via text.
Also maybe check out another mechanic or even a dealer for that matter for what he’s charging you

Man thanks a lot for the info I really appreciate it. I love the truck and want to keep it running well to eventually hand it down to my son once he’s of driving age…but man $3500. What is a coil over exactly?

There’s not a huge difference but that’s what you usually call them in the truck world anyways. Your rig should definitely last a long time. Try to keep it OEM but to each their own good luck

What's broken? When mine go, will likely swap out for the Fox units.

Here is a picture of one of the springs. Both of them broke in the same spot. The bottom of the spring

Dang! After you get that fixed I suggest you get that thing a oil underspray coating each year before winter and a minimum every few weeks undercarriage car wash during the winter. I live in Massachusetts so I can relate. Take care of that thing. :help:

Where I live we get anywhere from 200-400 inches of snow annually so the roads are salt and sanded from November till April/may. this was certainly a wake up call as far as maintaining the truck better during the winters here

That's Brutal............ You should be able to bolt the new Fox units straight in, but I'd be looking carefully at the balljoints, tie rod ends and strut mounts.

Normal Driving or Dukes of Hazard? ;)

Once you get the suspension sorted, get these, https://sealsavers.com/

They go around your springs and reduce salt/grime build up, this is a bad picture but you can see how it works, I also have it on the rear to prevent the shaft from corrosion.
