I am waiting for my SR5 Crewmax, short bed 4wd to show up next week. The Toyota website listed the truck as configured to have approximately 1800lb of payload. I looked over the payload thread and it's sounding like I'm not going to be impressed when I look at the door sticker on the truck next week. Guessing it will say 1400lb of payload.

I have a 5700lb TT (dry), probably at 7500lb if fully loaded (I never tow with the 60g water tank even half way full). My tongue weight is about 900lb (per scale), although I think I can knock some weight off that (use one full propane tank, put the spare tire on the rear bumper rather than under the nose of the trailer (long story)). We have 4 kids, but have never all gone in the truck on a trip. The kids all go in a separate vehicle when we trailer.

Has anyone towed with one of these trucks in the range I'm looking at? What are your thoughts? Hopefully someone can give me some hope, as I'm starting to look at F150 trucks again... Ugh.

I agree with the tongue weight, I just ordered a scale to measure that again (I used the 2x4 and bathroom scale to do it the first time). I do (always) use a WD hitch. At 900 lb tongue weight, and another 300 lb for my wife and I that only leaves 200lb for anything else in the truck... The payload thread seems to indicate that the door stickers may be low on these trucks, so I'm going to attempt to get the truck on a CAT scale when I test drive it to get a curb weight. My prior truck was a '19 Ram 1500 with a 1600lb payload (sticker). The one time I have a full tank of water, with bbq/gear/generator/gas can in the bed it felt a bit over loaded. So I'm really hoping to get some more inspiring news on the Tundra...

12% TW seems heavy? He says that's his scaled TW.

The tongue weight on our lightly loaded Rockwood is running right at 14%, our previous Jayco was 13%, both scaled with a Sherline TW scale.

It really depends on the trailer model and floor plan layout, but 12% is in range with everything I've ever seen. Our model has a dry TW of 10%.....YCFS.
