I have owned my Method Grid wheels for less than a year.

Some of the lip bolts have started to corrode and rust. These bolts didnt like the Buffalo NY winter apparently.

I keep the truck clean. Usually I wash it myself. I don't think my wash soap is harsh nor have I used any wheel cleaner detergents on these wheels. Over the winter I have taken it to the touch-less wash places.

Method has stepped up and is replacing these bolts with a set of stainless steel lip bolts. Many kudos to them. I was hoping they could send me black bolts, but the rep said the stainless would be more durable than the black ones.

So now a couple questions for you all:

How do I go about making sure these new stainless bolts survive the elements? wax? coating? What do you all use? Will the stainless be better than the ones that came on the wheels?

And what's the best way to coat/paint/color the old bolts? Id really prefer black. Might just paint the old set once the stainless ones arrive. Powder coat?

Here's some photos of the bolts in current condition.

I’ve got the grids as well. The stainless steel bolts on them will not rust, but then again I live in California. Anyways, these have been through salty iced roads, they’ve been scraped, and still rust free.

I’d probably try paint first, cheap and easiest.

I bought a set of the black bolts from Method, they lasted about a year before they started rusting. I have the original stainless bolts back in now, they do not have “MRW” stamped in them. I believe the bolts with MRW are mild steel junk (no matter the color) that shouldn’t be anywhere near a wheel.
Trash the original bolts and be happy with the new stainless ones.

Thanks guys for the input. I agree that the bolts that come on these wheels are cheap junk.

I will be rocking the Stainless ones that are currently on the way from Method.

And I spoke with a buddy who does powdercoating. He is going to powdercoat the heads of the original bolts for me. Black to match the rest of the wheel...so maybe I will use those in the summer months and swap to the stainless ones for winter/salt season.

And am going to purchase some type of wheel wax to coat the shit out of them :)

Installed the stainless wheel bolts that Method sent me. Added a bit of wax to them and a dab of grease to the threads.

Since they were nice enough to send me new bolts free of charge, I figured I'd place an order to show my support for their great customer service. Ordered some black spline lugs and fancy valve caps.

The wheels still need a good wash and wax but here's how they turned out. I like the stainless much better than the gold-ish zinc bolts that came on the wheels. And I do like that they have a smooth head with no logos on them.

Now to start cleaning the old bolts and getting them powder-coated black.

You’ll be fine with the stainless bolts. You won’t need to do anything to them. I had the original Double Standards on my Tacoma for 11 years. The OE bolts turned to shit like yours and they sent me the stainless bolts. I had them on for at least 9 of the 11 years. No issues. I’m in South Jersey.

I think I washed the truck 5 times in its 11 years/185k miles with me. You’re set now.

Heres the day I traded it in, bolts still shiny.
