I have a 2002 Tundra and was replacing the front seats (driver power and passenger manual bucket seats). The seats were from a 2005 so the wiring plugs didn’t match up. I cut the plugs off and wired them directly. Everything worked on the drivers power seat and cranked up and ran, but then I found out the seatbelts were different. So I disconnected wiring, and changed the seatbelt ends on the seat side. I had forgotten to disconnect the battery this time and as I was reconnecting the wires, the two power wires for the seat motors arced between each other. I then disconnected battery again and finished wiring. Reconnected wiring and seat worked correctly. But then cranked the engine, it fires up, but shuts off immediately after. Checked all the possible fuses, especially the 30 amp Power fuse that feeds the seat motor and all were good. Everything works but it won’t stay running. Fires up, but shuts off immediately. Another issue is that the battery may be going bad. I’m gonna test the battery tomorrow as I thought it may be a security system issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !

Double check all fuses and fuse links first.
    Keep cycling the start.
Turn key with foot on gas and pump the pedal to see if you can extend the idle at all before it stalls. Keep repeating this 20-25 times until the computer relearns the motor's parameters. This happened to my 06' when I had a bearing seize on the AC pump and the truck died when I came to a stop. I was able to disengage the AC clutch to release the belt and this allowed it to start again but stall immediately (as if it didn't know what to do once it started.) It would start and die, start and die, but if I pumped the gas, I could get it to stay running for a few seconds, but it would eventually die. I had it towed home and kept trying without any luck. Next morning after the 5th try it's started and choked a bit but eventually found it's feet and stayed running. I brought it in to service the bearing and asked the master tech about what happened. He said that there is a procedure of starting and letting the truck stall about 25 times to re-initialize the ecu. Whatever it may or may not be, he said by me starting the truck many times , I ended up getting to the point where it resolved itself with the ecu and the truck was happy again.
Don't know if you problem can be resolved this way, but the arc may have jolted the ecu out of whack and needs this learning curve to get back to normal?

I think you are right ! After a little more digging, I think the issue is from have the battery disconnected. As you mentioned, it seems the ecu can “forget” how to operate and it just needs to run to relearn how to calibrate everything. I cranked it up, kept giving it a little gas and eventually it idled on its own. I’m going to drive it more this afternoon and I bet it will even out how it runs back to normal. I have an 02 4Runner that did this one time on battery change and I didn’t know what was going on. Thanks for the help!
