What Annoys You About Your Truck?

Nothing . . . If I die tomorrow I know I won the best truck contest.

 

If I put upward pressure on the right hand side of that little cover area just above the instrument panel, the squeaking goes away. But I have to put pretty good pressure on it.

 

Gonna remove my instrument cluster and my radio panel this weekend to see what I can do to it. It only squeaks in the area near the windshield right between the IPC and radio control panel. Maybe some spray grease I can get in there to quiet it down.

 

There’s a reason I searched for what I bought.
What sucks is I have kids, I don’t want to give them my truck!!! If only I could buy a nice taco and seal it underground until they are old enough to drive


But seriously the door checks suck on these trucks…….

 

This and other "airheads" like it have been my only BMW's, unlike the BMW cages, these are a remarkably well thought out bike, my favorite, and I've owned more than 40 bikes over the years. Simple by design, but don't confuse the airheads with new BMW motorcycles, they don't have a super reliability record.

Nice /6. I haven't owned 40 motorcycles but I've owned a number of airheads including this GS that I bought new in 1988 and still ride regularly.

As for the Tundra, hmmm, the door checks are annoying. And I'd like the driver's seat to be an inch or two higher.

 

Is that an r80 gs?

 

Have you looked into these? They raise the front of the seat about an inch and it's an improvement in the comfort department.

I was actually thankful I didn't get power seats. My gf at the time I bought it wanted to drive it but had a hard time reaching the pedals without having the steering wheel up against her chest.

 

I've seen some of your posts and you have my luck. Repairs rarely go as planned... lol.

One thing that did suck was replacing the front shocks. The bottom bolt was b*tch to get in.

 

The previous owner's poor decisions. Like any previously owned car or house, it's amazing the decisions people make to something they will eventually sell.

Other than that, just a few rattles and noises that come with age. Tracking those down can be irritating.

 

My vote goes to the back seat on the access cab. Whenever we go camping at least one person has to sit back there. I always feel sorry for them

As for the starters, I happen to work at an automotive repair facility that uses mostly napa parts so I looked back at our records to see how many of these starters we have sold over the years. There are two different part #'s listed for my truck. One for 1.4kw starter and one for 2.0kw starter. We haven't sold either one as far back as our current records go.(which is 1996). So I don't know for sure how many vehicles have that engine but the fact we have never sold one says something about these starters and the location of them. JMO

 

Same on the search. Was shopping Tacomas, no one sells their Toyota truck up here, they keep them for life, my Tundra came up as the only thing under $35K that wasn't a beater. This forum was why I made my decision. Honestly, I really can't complain, I'm getting mine fully sorted one step at a time. It's a lifer now. Best damn truck ever. Just love it. It has door checks? LOL. Yeah, they could be better.

 

The thing im most annoyed about thats toyota fault:

the 1uz would have been so much better. And since i have 4 low, AND the 2uz, i’d be happier with 3.55’s or even 3.73’s.

most annoying about my truck specifically:
The pleather. Cloth seats win.

and the stupid auto locks. It burned me once last year, luckily i have a spare key, but i cant trust it. Every now and then it’ll beep and lock itself about 30 sec after leaving the truck.

 

My truck is really what I expect from a 21 year old truck. I've been in/worked on 2 other tundras and I guess I knew what to expect. After doing all the mods so far I think it's pretty perfect for my needs.
Only little thing that bugs me off the top of my head is that I can't permanently turn off the cargo lights which are now pointless with a topper on. Don't want to melt my housings any more than they are already.

You're the reason I worry about mine randomly locking. It and my shitbox Camry which I only have 1 door key for. Haven't seen it on either of them yet but I always worry.

 

I can't tell y'all how many times I've unlocked it from in the house, walked out to the truck only for it to lock itself back up as my hand is about 2 inches from the handle. I don't mind that it locks itself back up just give me about 15 more seconds on the timeout or an easy way to change it.

 

Your 05 is probably different but on the RS3X00 systems you can change the length of time to I think a minute. Unlocking it from the house, that'd be nice. Mine only works from like 15 feet away.

The auto lock after unlock seems to just be a Toyota thing. Even the new stuff does it.

 

Yeah I briefly looked into it once before and I believe the timeout is either 15secs, 30secs(default), or 60secs. Just need to find a way to change it on the 04-06 DC models.

 

I’ve got the RS3000 manual for my 02; not sure if it’s the same for the later models

 

I reset mine, but it doesnt care. Maybe once a month it auto locks, so my keys stay in my pocket. A few weeks ago, it did it 4 or 5 times in a row. Like all of 1 day, hasnt done it since.

Exactly what I was thinking. Unplug ze bulbs.

 

Probably doesn't want to have to remove the topper to do so (I wouldn't) but you never know.

 

Yeah in hindsight it would have been good to do that. I just try not to unscrew and screw the lens on and off a bunch to not wear anything out I suppose. Yeah the topper is on so it's too late now. Not sure how long it will be on for this time.

 

Customizable by Dealer with Techstream or personal copy of Techstream for 30/60 sec....perhaps Carista OBD2 ?

 

Not sure about on the access cabs, but I was able to remove the lens and change my bulbs with my cap on. Depending on your available tools, it may take some creativity to make it work. Something like a Phillips drill bit in a ratcheting wrench.
