    Morning guys!

I'm looking for my fist truck and hoping I an get some advice.

We are building a house on our acerage this year and living on a camper (40') on the property. We could probably make due with a utility trailer behind out Sienna, but this is what a truck was built for.

I have a deposit on a 2022 tundra, but I'm not sure I want to accumulate an extra $66,000 CAD (TRD OR) of debt. Also, not arriving until late summer...

So, used trucks. Looking in the $20-25k range, lower mileage 2011 4x4 double cabs are about what I can get. Remember Canadian dollars so don't get freaked out.

    Uses:
    - carrying 1000L water tote to bring fresh water to site for the trailer.
    - random building supply runs.
    - moving furniture/household items/tools.
    - moving fire wood throughout property.
    - towing utility trailer (potentialy with a 2000 tractor loaded).
    - commuting 110 km (70 mile) round trip to work daily. Speed limits are all 80km/h (50 mph) so fuel econ won't be the worst.
    - Carrying the family (2 adults, 3 kids) but not on long road trips.

    Prefered configuration: Double cab (6.5' bed), 4x4, 4.6 V8.

-We won't be towing the camper (at least more than a few kms) so the smaller engine is prefered for fuel consumption.
    - What do I look for regarding frame rust? We are in Ontario so we get plenty of salty roads.

Anything I should be looking out for with this vintage of a truck? Pic for attention.

Well, I have a 2012 double cab 4.6 and love it. It has very little rust but I got it from a neighbor who rarely drove it in snow. I think as long as you get under it and it doesn’t look bad it should be good to go, they seem to be pretty darn reliable.

Building a house will beat up any truck, it’d be a shame to spill/smash/scratch a 66k truck. Buying an 11-13 and driving it a few years until your projects are finished is wise.

I bought my 2013 in 2016, from a Ford lot. Before this truck, I’ve never had larger than a 6 cyl ‘98 Pathfinder. I wasn’t looking for a 5.7 necessarily, but that’s what came with my Limited. I’m just saying this because I understand about the high gas prices, but I wouldn’t turn down a 5.7 if somebody had a low mileage one. You are already saving a wad of money buying used. I haven’t bought a brand new vehicle since 1988. It’s so easy to buy slightly used cars online now, the money you save can go for whatever gas costs. You might even get a 5.7 cheaper than a 4.6. Just my thoughts about how to rationalize gas prices. Cuz’ I can remember when gas was $.19 a gallon during some Okie gas wars back in the early 1970’s…‍♀️‍♀️

not much difference in mpg between 4.6 and 5.7L. I would say get the 5.7L plus more trucks with that engine anyways.

Buy a 2006 with the 4.7 and thrash the hell out of it. You'll spend even less money and it should still meet your needs :)
