Catalytic Converter BULLS&%T

Watched an actually well done news report yesterday on the fiasco this catalytic convertor theft pandemic has become from the police point of view. They stated that even when they arrest someone that person is most often released without ANY charges whatsoever. The report then had a prosecuting attorney from Maricopa County(Phoenix) explain that unless they have extremely clear video of the crime taking place they won't even bother prosecuting since there is no chance of conviction. The most they can get these people on is metal theft which then is lumped into the same category as someone who steals a piece of rebar from you. Literally saying why not do the crime since there is no chance of doing any time. So every time we see some piece of shat criminal arrested with his picture in the media we feel good not ever knowing the same person was probably out stealing again that night.

If only they treated this as seriously as the War on Drugs.

 

The Triple "C" (Catalytic Converter Cartel) in Mexico would ramp up catalytic converter production and gangs of people would be roaming around installing catalytic converters on random cars.

 

An off duty sheriff deputy was shopping with his wife , when they came outside they came upon these PO$ in the process of stealing the catalytic converters. A gun fight took place and the deputy lost his life. They have to slam these idiot scum bags hard to put a stop to this!! As I type this the other day the Harris County DAs office let a real piece of trash bond out on multiple homicide charges!!! Things have got turned upside down and they,, make that we have to get things changed so this type of behavior will not continue!!!

 

That saddens me considering they don't get that much money for the stolen cats.

 

Well. It’s gonna have to get real bad before it gets better. All the DAs, mayors, and judges that were voted in will have to be voted out. The only way that happens is people seeing what the policies they support bring.

The office was driving a Tundra! They just showed the reported theft of Converters for the year so far is 1974 reported Catalytic Converter thefts!!

 

I just saw where they caught two of the three thugs, because the deputy shot back. Too bad he didn't find any vital organs.

 

Those autos that are easy to remove cats need to change their designs.

Ever hear of a BMW, Mercedes or Porsche having theirs stolen? They bury them much deeper, takes hours to remove one.

 

I wrote my congressman 2 weeks ago on this subject. Everyone needs to do this. I stated that they need to cut off the market. Some states have passed laws making it a felony. Do they really think the thieves care? Maybe we ought to do like the Saudis would and cut off a hand.

 

Should be legal to just shoot thieves, no warning, no questions asked.

 

I used to joke that it’d be cool if the Boondocks Saints were a real thing.. now, I’m hoping they become a reality. How friggen hard is it to be a good person?

Start with the finger tips and slowly work upwards with no anasthetic. Maybe a deck screw through each big toe as well just to be sure they get the message.

 

It's only a problem if you get caught.

 

Guess they didn't like my response earlier despite the truth. After 25 plus years on the front lines in health care/public service we see it all.


The contributors should get more of a say so than the non contributors.

And lenient DAs, prosecutors, and judges should be held liable if a criminal commits a crime while out on parole when they should have still been in jail. Take away implied immunity from them.......and things would begin to improve.

 

In Texas it is legal when protecting your property. Not sure if that applies to converters. With the way things are going it may not be long until we find out.

Had my stolen last Saturday while I was in the hospital. Had my truck parked in the parking garage. Hadn’t even had it 10 days.
Dealer has no ETA on the replacements either

 

You need to add that sellers of used cat need to present a valid business license for an automotive repair shop and a copy of the repair order stating the make, model, and VIN. Nothing is going to change unless our lawmakers get off their fat asses and do something. In Texas they are more concerned with who can use certain bathrooms and taking away women's rights.

 

I'm picturing some sting operations. A few hidden cameras in a run down motel room with agents waiting next door. A scrap metal guy is brought into the room to make a purchase of catalytic converters. He takes his pinky and wipes it on the inner wall of the pipe outlet, rubs his gums, "that's uncut 400 cell count! Where did you get these?"

"Don't ask us questions, we have a supply! Do you have the money or not?" As soon as the money changes hands in come the feds.

 

Older Toyotas/Lexus were like that... My SC400 has them tucked in the engine bay, complate nightmare to get them out

 

We all know who is pulling the strings behind the scene.

 

It is hard to comment on this topic without being political. But it is a sad state of affairs.

 

And you can't just crawl underneath one without jacking it up. The Japanese don't think about people stealing stuff because their laws actually deter people from doing it.
