Has anyone have any tricks or luck with any product out there to help with fuel mileage?. Horrible fuel mileage. I’m getting about 13 mpg and have a tuner on truck now?? I’m running 295-70-18 tires on bbs tundra wheels. Shall I go to a 255 like my stock tires were and if so anyone have an idea if that will give me a considerably more amount of mileage??

Nothing you do will gain significant improvements in mileage.

    It is what it is.

So I’ll just keep my 295 on it. They may have 1500 miles on them. Super nice quiet smooth tire. Nexen Roadian great tires. Idk it will cost me too much money to switch out size for hardly no different fuel mileage

Switching back to stock sized highway tread tires should be good for probably 2 maybe 3 more mpg. That’s about all you can do though.

I went from OEM 255 to 285/70R18 and lost 2-4MPG all around. With 255 if I drove like a nun I could get 15.7 - 16.3. If I drove normal generally 15. If I drove 80+ on freeway and hard on city roads I got 14. The 285's give me 14.5 and 13 but if I drive crazy it's a pain causing 9.5 - 11.

Do a lift and 35's and never look at gas mileage again. Smiles per mile.

well unless the computer is calculated for bigger tires you are getting a little better than the computer is saying

You'll do slightly better in a 2WD. Our Sequoia gets 15-17 and I've even gotten 18-20 on longer trips. Stock everything.

This is true and often ignored. If the revs/mile are 5% less for example, I believe the thing to do is multiply the trip readout miles x 1.05 to get actual miles travelled when doing the calculation.

    Remove anything that adds weight.

I just realized I still had my winter sandbags in the bed and was carrying chains. Took that stuff out and I’d swear I’m doing better by about 1-2mpg.

Its a Tundra and gas mileage stinks. If looking for better, time to search for a CAR.

Weren't these built for pulling & hauling? These are built very well right off the line. MPG is going to be bad in a truck that is built for work. I just got my 1st Tundra & am very happy with the mpg given the HP & torque it already has. This is coming from a guy that knew nothing but big block 454s, 4:56 gears, 4spd, 1 ton 4x4 Chevys. And they all had 20 gallon tanks. Tundra has 1 38 gallon tank & gets 2x the mileage & far more comfort & gadgets. My Chevys averaged 8 mpg. I'm happy & LOVE this Tundra.

Not sure I’m adding anything new…just been down this road so here are my somewhat repetitive comments.

Larger tires add unsprung weight and since they are taller, they take more effort to turn…the entire drivetrain is optimized for the stock tire size and even then the 2.5 Gen Tundra is a notoriously thirsty platform. Oh yes, and don't forget that all the other accessory add-ons bring extra weight which is the nemesis of efficiency.

Case in point, I have a supercharger and I went to Toyo AT III tires that are one size up on stock wheels…it looks really cool but the rest leaves a bit to be desired. Stopping distance suffers, acceleration suffers, gearing is not optimized, etc, etc, etc. My mileage is hand calc’d 12-14…add a headwind and it drinks the fuel…but my dash computer says 19mpg…go figure.

I drove this chevy for years. 12" lift 38's Hot 454. I could go about a 100mi if I stayed out of it. If you like what you drive economy is secondary. Loved that truck.

I just pulled an almost 6,000 lb travel trailer for 970 miles from 10 feet above sea level to 850 feet elevation with a maxed out '21 driving between 62-65 through terrible traffic and averaged 11.1 MPG for the trip. Two overnight stops so that includes the gas guzzling engine warm up.
My trailer tires are at 65 psi and the truck is 35 ft and 38 rear. Most of the trip was using cruise control and S5 downshifting to S4 as soon as the TC unlocks.
The 4 months I was overwintering the truck averaged 16.9 running around lightly loaded.

Looks like aftermarket bumpers and a headache rack in the profile pic too. In this environment if I was pimping out an off road truck with mileage-sapping modifications I’d probably find it easier to pay cash for a cheap fuel sipper to sit next to it than to squeeze more mileage out of it
