Synthetic oil, conventional oil, does it even make a difference?

Up to 125 posts in under 24 hours.

I'm still interested in why people feel compelled to pile on like they do when someone asks about oil. I mean, the intent of the post was clearly stated in the subject line. It would have taken all of a couple of seconds to read the subject and decide it's of no interest and move on. If people think talking about oil is a waste of their time, why is answering and whining about people talking about things of no interest not an even more monumental waste of time?

Maybe it's just me, but when people waste hours of their time whining about people wasting a couple of seconds of their time, that's just weird.

I suspect it's not really about wasting time so much as feeling superior.

Hey! Don't I know you from the ZRXOA? :)

FWIW, I bought a '97 Cavalier for a commuter car and switched it to synthetic at 132,000 miles. That first change got nasty looking very quickly. Then after that, over the next 25 or 30,000 miles it gradually started taking longer and longer to get dark. When I sold it at 241,000 miles it would go 12,000 between changes and still not look bad. Nonetheless, my 2003 Tundra darkened Mobil 1 a lot more between changes than my 2018 appears to be.

Just think how much more efficient your pistons would be if you used KY instead of 0w-20

See? You've made my point. Though there are threads on the subject, here we are wasting our time arguing about it again. It does no good. Learn to use the "Ignore" function, which is set by default. Do nothing, and it's activated. ;)

As you should, and I will too. But you don't seem to be angry because the OP posted something you disapprove of. I don't understand why people will open a thread that's so clearly about something that's going to anger then when it's so easily ignored. Makes no sense. Do you suppose they enjoy being righteously indignant? I've known people who aren't happy unless they're mad about something. Could that be it?

See, there you go, continuing not to take your own advice. So how can one think that said advice is valid?

Ah, but I'm just expressing my curiosity. At no point have I become righteously indignant, sarcastic, or condescending because someone had the gall to start a tread about something that doesn't interest me. I find oil threads interesting. It's mainly because of how peeved some folks get at the thread being posted in the first place but interesting nonetheless. I see thread subjects on here daily that don't interest me. I ignore them, and they soon go away. I don't get email notifications or anything. It's like magic.

The 0W-20 in the wife's Corolla is black after 3000 miles. May have to review her driving habits.

I think this was op's way of indirectly talking about the missing '22 tow hook ... and had nothing to do with oil.

Thats like the 1UR-FE in my GX. Here in the US it is 0W-20 all the way. They say you can use 5w-20 if you cannot find 0W-20, but must change back to 0W on the next oil change.

Meanwhile, the Australian owners manuals say the same motor can ran 20W-50 I think?

I run 10W-30 in my GX and 5W-40 in my Ecoboost which calls for 5w-30. Both seem to really like the heavier oil, especially towing.

    Its purely a cafe/epa/mpg thing.
