hey guys I was hoping someone could help me out here.yesteday I got out of my truck clicked my factory alarm on and the parking lights stay on. Why? I don’t know? I went back into the truck turn the key into the ignition turn over one click and there back off the turn signals come off. also back truck lights come on too as well as the cluster gage lights and license plates lights .so for now I have to lock the doors manually so I don’t drain my battery

If you're saying the lights are off until you hit the lock button on the remote I'm going to guess the relay for the lights in the alarm has gone bad. Depending on the alarm model it's likely built in and you may need to replace the whole module.

Honestly it's 16 year old alarm, I'd drop it off at an electronics shop and have them install a new unit.

I *think it's on the drivers side either behind the kick panel or up under the dash on that side.

If it was just a normal light relay though I'd think this would be an issue all the time vs just when the remote lock is used.

"Factory alarm"? Are you sure it's a factory alarm and not a dealer-installed item? The latter was common and often caused symptoms like this. The more common one is for trucks from western/southwest US, made by KARR.

Post a pic of your remote. Just curious.

All the symptoms sound like what a non-OEM alarm does after 10-15 years. It doesn't sound at all like what an OEM security system does. Especially not on the later model trucks with the RS3200 security system in them.

Check to make sure all of the doors lock when you hit the button. In some cars, if one of them are unlocked the lights remain on. Could be that you have a bad actuator on one of the doors that isn’t locking.

OEM only used RS3000 (earlier models) and RS3200 (later models) for our 1st gen. Factory direct.
Dealerships installed aftermarket systems, KARR being the notorious one everyone bitches about. Dealer port.

Sad part is, the markup on the dealer port, which had all the issues, was a 4-digit price tag. At a time when even the best of the best aftermarket alarms at a pro shop would be $500 or less, installed. And the way the KARR systems were installed from what I've seen on here and other Toyota forums is, to say the least, a hack job.

Yup, that's factory. Huh. First time for everything, I guess.

This link will give you the PDF for your security system. I do agree, it sounds as if it would be a security system/alarm that's acting up.

If it were me, the 1st step I'd take is looking up under the dash on the driver's side to see if someone installed an aftermarket alarm at any point, maybe they did and the brain is still there.

If there's not another alarm system installed (I still suspect there is), next thing I'd do is pop off the negative battery cable for 30 minutes just to allow things to clear out w/o power. See if it persists.

If the problem continues after, I'd be going under the dash on the driver's side to find the RS3200 box and popping it out, inspecting it for water damage or otherwise. Note that, if you should have access to another you could swap in, that would be an interesting test but you'd need to program your current fob with it using the instructions.

If I didn't find anything conclusive at that point, I'd report back here with details on what you found.
