The issue: Signals turn signals too dim

Me: Takes to vehicle to Toyota dealer to fix the problem.

Dealer: They are defective and not as bright a service managers 2017 Tundra. They contact Toyota for a solution. Toyota has no solution nor do any of the lead or master technicians. Dealer suggests replacing bulbs and contacting Toyota customer service.

Me: I’ll replace with LEDs. They need resistor built in so expensive VLEDS are best option. I buy and replace.

There is no f-ing way you would have known to check the output from the connectors in the harness. Nor did anyone at the dealerships service department.

And you figured that out all by yourself? Or, you saw a post on here of someone who figured it out? This was long before anyone had figured it out. Easy to criticize when you already had the solution. I did not.

"I realized long before the official recall that the lights were too dim and replaced them with much brighter LEDs."

It's "under review" because you have thrown them a curve ball. You have modified the truck.

Could they have not checked the voltage? (Presuming it would alert?)

Shouldn't this issue be resolved by the dealership if they told you to switch out the bulbs?

They're not slow walking the claim because their customer service is sub-par. Nobody there will sign off on reimbursement for a repair that doesn't fall in Toyota's recall. It's not a write-off, because a bulb wasn't at the crux of the problem, wires were. It won't get comp'ed because what if everyone runs out and gets $175 worth of bulbs to fix a $15 wire problem, and then asks for the comp which would then have precedent set?

They'll try as hard as they can to outwait you on this, to avoid voicing the hard no. But I'll buy you a donut if it's not a hard no.

I hope you can find a happy place. You've got a nice truck that's a lot less imperfect than any other truck brand.

I could see Toyota reimbursing you but only for the cost of their replacement bulbs based upon the dealer recommendation if it’s in writing, not what you paid for the upgrade.

So you think that your claim is the only one the world's largest auto manufacturer is dealing with or that they should bump you up to the top of the list for some reason?

Well OP, I think you might just need to pack your oldest boots full of "mud" and visit your local showroom. Explain the situation and ask them to call corporate on your behalf. While they are on the phone, leave plenty of "evidence" everywhere, maybe test a seat position or 3. Repeat the process everyday until resolved. Pretty sure it won't take more than a week.

Man, I get you’re pissed. But, Toyota doesn’t suck and generally does right by consumers. A dim bulb is a pretty small issue.
I probably would be frustrated myself so I get it. Your thread title isn’t going to gain you a ton of support because it’s inaccurate.

I always thought Mercedes owners sat in the back and let their dog drive. Pretty much every one I pull up to at a stop light looks like this..

Folks nowadays think something is owed them for someone screwing up. The last thing I would ever do is go to the dealer to fix anything. If your thinking lead you to $175 lights to fix the problem, shame on you.

What do you think happens when a company says free money? People come out of the woodwork to scam them...at the expense of the legit submittals. They have all these layers to go through be cause they have been f'ed in the past...repeatedly. You bought the lights when there was no fix out there and decided that was the best decision for you. Them coming out with a possible avenue for reimbursement is a bonus. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Serious question - did you know/realize when you discovered this issue that there's a recall on the bulbs?

I ask this because the very first thing I do whenever I have an issue is sit down and look to see if the issue is a recall, covered by a TSB, etc.

This seems like if your truck had a factory issue with shock mount bushings—just the bushings—and you replaced your entire suspension with new coilovers and rear shocks and then expected Toyota to cover the bill.

This is one of the most accurate statements on this thread. Toyota will still need to "fix" the problem. Your band aid temporary fix, they don't owe for. In my opinion.

There is a thread about the headlight recall and replacing them with LEDs and getting reimbursed. Nobody whining there because it isn't titled "Toyota SUCKS". Instead they are all trying to learn how to cheat the system. Really funny to see how a title affects blood pressures and brings out the haters.:crapstorm::humble:
