    Fellow Enthusiasts,

I'm on the fence whether to purchase a gently used 2020/2021 Tundra now or wait until the supply catches up to demand and purchase a new 2022 Tundra.

I love the reliability of the 5.7L V-8 (but not the fuel mileage) and the styling of the Gen 2.5 Double Cabs.

I love the improvements they've made to the 2022's, but I'm NOT really digging the front grill.

I'd like to know the Pro's and Con's of each.

    Thanks,
    Denis

Better yet find a low mileage nice 18 if you can. Basically a Grandpa checked outta here kinda deal.

The 3rd gen's drivetrain seems nice with all that torque down low. The rear locker is great for off-roading. It has yet to prove itself. Maybe I'll be interested at some point down the road.

If you're like me, and a PROVEN, honest truck is your #1 criterion, then 2.5 gen all day.

Yes, it rides like a truck.
Yes, it lacks creature comfort features.
Yes, the engine has to rev higher to get to its power band (and yes, it's designed to do exactly that).
    Yes, it's thirstier.
And yes, it will last as long as you want it to on very simple, routine maintenance.

Both are over priced right now. Due to shortages. Have you found a 2.5 that you like? What trim level is it.? Compare the prices. When I bought my 2017 in 2017 I found it was only 5k more than the used. So brand new was the way to go. That being said, you could order one made to the specs you want. Pick the upgrades delete the ones you don't want.

I ended up at a Toyota dealer and they were trying to get me to trade in the 2017 for a new vehicle. I believe they wanted 56k. TRD double cab. But they wanted to insist that they would add tint, level kit and running boards for 5k. Basically everything I would get rid of except the tint.

I enjoy working on my truck and starting new it was on me to maintain. Didn't have to think about how the original owner treated it.

Pros for the new. Locking rear differential. Crawl control. Big screen. Depending on the trim.

Cons unproven what ever bug there is will be fixed in the next two years.
Also go for crew cab but don't tell my double cab comrades I said that.

I would say go with 2022. I saw most of the people who had both 2.5 and 3 gens, they said they will go with 3rd gen even with some issues. The third gen issues are under Toyota warranty so the hassle is to bring it back to dealership to fix the problems. I own 2.5 but will get 3rd gen when it is available at dealership for test drive. I will not buy a new vehicle if I can't see and test drive it.

Wouldn't touch the 3rd gen under any circumstances, now or in the future until all the below is replaced with proper choices.

Way too many issues for a Toyota vehicle.
    Parts shortages.
    Barely any mpg improvement.
Terrible overly complex v6 engine with issues and HIGH maintenance/repair costs over time when out of warranty.
    Terrible ugly body design.
Less interior space, in a bigger truck?
    lower to the ground.
    Front electric airdam nonsense.
    Poor interior lighting.
    Ridiculous "panoramic sunroof"
    No tow hooks.
    Useless air suspension.
    Plastic bed.
Subscription to use features you already paid for.

    Some of these are opinions.
But either way, this aint the Tundra we know and love, it's some Frankenstein monster and not the good kind.

    Thank you all!

    I’ve made a decision. I found a single owner, 2021 SR5 Double Cab (6.5’ Bed) with 17K miles.

I hope she serves me well.

That doesn't seem like a lot of miles for a truck that's 18 months old at most?

Seems like a lot for me. I drive about 5K a year between my 3 trucks.

    Congrats! Post a pic...
I did the same thing this weekend, bailed on my '22 build that was awaiting shipment and bought a '20 in Voodoo blue, 4wd DC.
She'll be more thirsty, but the drama of CEL and everything else "'22" is history.
