Just traded my Chevy in for the new Tundra and so far I love it more than any truck I ever owned.. I do have a question can you get "option packages" added after the fact?

I picked my truck up as it was impossible to find in stock, happen to find a silver one and added the running boards and black tailgate lettering but I really want to have the HUD option and maybe even the air bag rear suspension..

so is it even possible for either or too late ? Thanks for any help!

TY both... I am really interested in the HUD option and was hoping that could be added after.. Seems in a truck as nice as the platinum it along with running boards should have absolutely been included as a base.. just my opinion.. either way i love the truck

Not to jack the thread, but I've always wondered as your process. Do you have a bot setup to do this for you or are you just that dedicated? If it's dedication...kudos to you!

Air bag suspension wouldn't be hard to add. Lots of truck owners add air bag suspension to their trucks since it's a great setup for towing. You may not be able to add the OEM system, but give it a year (maybe less) and I'm sure there will be air bag suspensions available in the aftermarket.

As for the HUD...that one's gotta pretty tough to add aftermarket. I can only speculate, but I would guess it would require removing the dash in order to add some of the "projector" components. Maybe even a new "top cap" to the dash to allow for the projector lens? I'm not entirely sure. [Shudders] Give me nightmares of the time I replaced my heater core in my XJ a few years ago. I had to remove the entire dash for that. It's a weekend I will never forget. No wonder shops charge $1000 for a job that requires installing a $70 part. lol

Welcome from a longtime Chevrolet owner. Three weeks into mine and I love it more every single day. Today I learned that I love the acceleration.

Welcome and I agree...nevertheless, when I put my deposit down back in Nov, those were my main two requirements. I told the dealership to just skip me if my turn came and the allocation didn't have both features. The heads up display is pretty neat, but I had to switch glasses; I could barely see it with polarized lenses. If the sun was really right, it was pretty much invisible.

if you try to add an option/pkg after the fact, take the cost displayed on the website for that option/pkg and multiple it by 3x. that will be the cost for the parts alone. once you add the labor cost which will be abhorrent or impossible since the dealer will not doe certain things if the vehicle didnt come with it.

if i remember correctly the pkg for the hud is $1700 x 3 = $5100 just for the parts probably. yeah i doubt you will spend the money for that and i am also guessing the associated parts you have to replaced are not part of that cost (like a new dash, the wiring to power the hud, etc)

a good example of this was a thread on the classic running board to add after the fact. ordered at the factory was $569, ordering thru the parts dept. jacked the price up to $1500 when you had to piece meal all the parts since it does not come in a kit.

It may be possible after the fact with Techstream.

There is a software package for Fords called Forscan that lets you do such things. In general, all the wiring is in place and the programming is there, you just have to turn it on. So like on the F150 you can add power running boards, trailer brake controler, differential locker, 4Auto transfer case, etc and then go in with forscan and tell the correct module that the truck has the accessory and it functions just like it came from the factory that way. The information appear on the gauge cluster just like it would from the factory.
