Where did I go wrong in life? The wife and I are more fortunate than many, many others out there and make good money, but there's no way I could swing for $1.5 mil, let alone $1.5 mil over the asking price - even if I wanted to.

How are all these people getting that much cash to just indiscriminately dole out for greedy salesmen and bidding wars on assets that will never (or not for a very long time) recover the premium paid?

    I just don't get it.

Not everyone wins when they make purchases like this either. Seen plenty of that in my lifetime. Kinda like how Las Vegas was built....not from a bunch of winners.

I should probably preface that these are not permanent homes. Example buying 5000 square foot gorgeous house on the lake just to knock it down and build 15000 square foot. The cost is insignificant to a lot of these people. I’m just fortunate enough to insulate a lot of their “camps”.

These have been bringing crazy money (like most 60's/ early 70's muscle cars) for the last few years.

Or panicking about the fuel prices and thinking that spending extra money for a few more MPGs is somehow saving them money.

I did a lot of shopping around, approx 6-8 weeks. I finally found my Tundra at my local dealer who sold it to me at MSRP and no additional deal add on’s.

    Dealer:
    Sheehy Toyota of Stafford, VA

I paid $1000 under MSRP (I didn’t care for the side steps). Was a pre-sold truck that someone backed out of. Had been on the lot for a few days and dealer was looking to get rid of it so their future allotments didn’t get downsized. I think I’m the only one in the country that didn’t pay MSRP or higher.

What does putting them on blast do? The best thing we can do is not buy, which is hard not to do and wait for the above market adjustment to go away.

Capitol Toyota in Salem Oregon... only sell at MSRP on all their lots... every other lot I went to around here is $5k-$10k over MSRP... don't get me started on the prices every place is asking on USED though.... ugh... Was lucky to find a 22' Limited Tundra sitting on the lot that a guy just had backed out of...

This dealership and the salesman must be smoking good stuff. I would waste their time. Let them know you will take it, get everything rolling, paperwork, the hold on the vehicle. Be a pain too. Ask for daily updates. Then when it comes in just back out on him for being that arrogant.

Just picked up last week, 1794 in Canada dealer was close to commitment agreement was msrp plus taxes, ended up $600 over sticker, lots of huffing and puffing as I declined extended warranty, undercoating, paint seal, tire and wheel package, etc. Nice truck a bit gadgety compared to the 2019 I had but sure rides nice.

Dealers who brazenly do this out in the open do all sorts of other things behind the scenes as well. Service department, used car lot ect... highlighting a dealer with no morals or empathy fir the customer is information that needs a highlighter, as well as good documentation on the web for future customers.

The market will flip eventually, people need to remember these dealers looking to gouge you at every turn.
