So.....it sounds like pulling a trailer with the fancy features can get complicated. What happens if I hook up to a trailer and don't engage the trailer feature? If I understand correctly the truck can lock brakes when trying to back up the trailer if all of the tech gadgetry is not set just right. Excuse my ignorance if I am off base.

Press a button and turn it off. If all else fails RTFM.

Gotta love the internet and the “facts” offered. Lol..I tow with my 22 plat. No auto braking has come on when backing up, going forward, gassing up, or crossing small rivers!!

This truck tows a lot better than my 19 did. Much more stable, and easier to get it set up for towing. Really can hardly tell when it shifts. No sudden yanking or bucking and then high revs up or down.

A lot of functions change based on detecting the trailer hooked to the vehicle. The car can detect if a trailer hooked up even if you don’t connect the trailer 4-pin/7-pin to the truck. In such a case, you’ll need to disable the parking support braking to keep the truck from braking when you’re trying to back up. That’s the button that has the car with a cone at the rear.

    ■ Auto Trailer Detection (ATD)
Auto Trailer Detection (ATD) detects if a trailer is attached by using the Trailer Brake Controller (TBC) or the Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) sensors.
●Trailers that use TBC can be detected by using the 7-pin trailer brake connectors.
●Other types of trailers can be detected using the BSM sensors.
    ● When a trailer is detected via BSM or TBC, RCTA function will be dis- abled.
●As soon as the trailer is detected, the detection area will be extended to a maximum length of approximately 16 ft. (15 m) from the rear bumper of the truck.
●If the trailer does not have a 7-pin connector, or the 7-pin connector is not engaged, the trailer is detected via the BSM sensor. In this case PKSB and Intuitive park- ing assist functions will not be dis- abled.
●For trailer auto detection without Blind Spot Monitor operation
engagement of 7-pin connector, the vehicle should be moving for- ward at speed of above 0.6 mph (1 km/h) for at least 10 seconds.
●ATD function is triggered at every engine switch on/off cycle or if the vehicle is stopped in shift the shift lever is in P or N for more than 90 seconds.
    ● Trailer detection vis BSM sensors may be delayed if the vehicle is in a crowded environment such as busy parking lot, area surrounded with trees (camping ground) or in an environment with objects in the immediate environment that pre- vent sensors from sufficiently detecting the trailer.
    ■ Trailer Length Detection (TLD)
●Once a trailer is detected and if the trailer length in the meter is selected as “Auto”, the TLD func- tion will estimate the trailer length using the Blind Spot Monitor sen- sors.
In order to estimate the trailer length with TLD function and detection area, make at least two 90 degree turns.
If the trailer length is entered manu- ally via multi-information display input, the detection area is also adjusted to exceed the length of the trailer.
●Depending on some trailer types and the dimensions of the trailer TMW performance may be degraded.

Uh..ok..agree with the tech specs and your listing.

I stand by my point that all of that ,( though I am and was aware) is in the background for me as I have towed three trailers at this point and backed up all three. I only input length of two as the 3rd is a 6x10 and knew it would not be an issue and is a low flatbed.

The main 27’ foot , 6200 pound trailer was saved into the trucks trailer system along with what I set the trailer brake to (4).

just as their are a hundred processes occurring or not occurring when starting a motor, we just get in and drive once the seat is adjusted.
When towing I turn Nothing off (as noted the truck deactivates certain functions when trailer connected) , start the truck and tow!

But again, obviously agree the tech specs are all there for us to be aware but towing is not quite as onerous as a first look at the manual leads one to beleive

I towed a 23’ TT yesterday 300 miles and it was phenomenal. AVS on my Limited w/ tow mirrors. Happy w/ my tow vehicle.

backed it up into a tight, long, turning driveway with no issues.

You can option the AVS down to the SR5 trim with certain Premium packages. I considered it on my order, but decided it wasn't worth it based on my needs. Plus, the way Toyota builds their packages I would have had to add a lot of extra stuff for a lot of extra $$$.

Yes that’s correct, AVS only available in trims above Limited and always packaged with air suspension. I think he means air suspension.

    Hmm

    I didn’t know a difference.
“Load-leveling Rear height air suspension” is on mine.”

Yep, that’s the air suspension available from SR5 and up. AVS stands adaptive variable suspension and it is electronically controlled dampers. It gives a Comfort and Sports+ option in the drive modes too.
