Does anyone have pictures of their truck with their factory tail lights tinted? I'm getting my front windows tinted soon and I'm thinking about having them tint the tail lights and 3rd brake light as well. I thought about getting aftermarket tail lights but I really just want them slightly darker to give that custom look. Thanks!

I have tinted covers for both head and tail. They preserve, tint, and protect. From Extreme Terrain.

It's illegal down here and may not pass vehicle inspection if your state has one.

    Good luck..

What if you have secondary lights such as integrated in an aftermarket bumper and or headache rack? Just curious, because I have both, others might as well.

    I don't know.
My neighbor had his Durango tail lights tinted and it wouldn't pass inspection.
In Texas you have to get the vehicle inspected to get your plate registration (in other words pay your vehicle TAX:mad:).

Fortunately for him, he had a hook-up to get the inspection sticker and state report without the inspection.
Illegal, but it happens all the time.

Many thousands of vehicles down here with tinted lenses.
It may come down to who inspects it and if they are in a bad mood or not.

I know I've had to go thru vehicle inspection stations at work.
DPS tells me very light on my vehicle has to work properly and be in original condition (not modified in any way).

I replaced all my bulbs in my Tundra with LED bulbs and had no issues.

I tend to be more on the side of safety.
If you get rear-ended with illegally tinted taillights, you could be found at fault.
I see some on the highway at night so dark it looks like their lights are off.

But I'm an old curmudgeon, you kids do whatever you want..

May be different in your state.
    Good luck.

Funny story....back in the 90's when we had inspections here, I went with a friend to get an inspection on his truck. Inspector said "hit the horn". Jimmy stuck his head out of the window and yelled "get the ×/%= out of the way!" as loud as he could. Inspector and me were dying with laughter and Jimmy got a pass. It has always been and will always be a world with "flexible" rules.

    ^^^^^^^^This is all good advice.

Illegal in my state of Va,
Same with ANY windshield tint other than factory, or ANY license plate covers.
Also most military bases won't let you on with some of this stuff tinted.
I was denied entry to one as a guest years ago for license plate tinted covers.

Why would want to darken the lights that need to be bright to keep you safe?
Doesn't make any sense, cool looking or not (it is cool looking)

I am laughing at my neighbor as I just notice he got his brand new 22 Chevy 1500 all 4 windows aftermarket blacked out and like a 1ft black strip down the front windshield.
He's in for a WORLD of hurt when he starts getting pulled over for those, sometimes they will even impound your vehicle as it is deemed unsafe to drive.
Tickets go up into the $300+ ranger per incident here.

Wife and I learned this the hard way some 15 years ago on her 99 Lexus GS300.
    No thanks!

I didn't add the covers because I wanted a cool look. I did so, because my truck parks on a Southern exposure driveway, so UV damage is my concern. Also as mentioned above, I have clear/red auxillary lights both front and rear with added markers, and DOT tape as well. So yeah, safety is possible with tinted factory light covers.

    Thats seems reasonable.

Not sure how much UV damage the stock lights will get as they should be designed with this in mind I would think?
My truck also lives outside so I get where your coming from.

So far I religiously use a windshield screen/visor/cover that is chrome for summer time and black on the other side for winter.
I am trying to keep my interior and black dash from fading and cracking, but with my white truck it gets no excessive heat damage unlike my black 4runner which can cook all types of food on the paint and even inside where it reaches over 130 degrees sitting in the summer sun lol.

Extra lights and tape help make up for darkened stock lights certainly, but it is still illegal in many states like mine.
Basically, in my state and many others you cannot technically alter any stock lights at all, or exhaust, in any way.
There are also limits on light colors and what not also. Can't go around looking like police or fire response vehicles lol.
Then there are window tint limits, I forget what they are exactly but back windows can be dark, front is much less, and zero on the windshield.
Best caveat is if it comes factory it's automatically legal, but good luck with that
Doesn't stop people from things like this and they don't hassle anyone unless your tinted or headlights blind a cop and he gets pissed by it, or your exhaust is super loud.

My concern is the lights are much less visible due to the tinted covers, especially in day time.
I do like the look personally, but would not do it even if it was legal due to that concern and some one else mentioned liability if you get rear ended :notsure:
