i use the hell out of my 1/8" roll pin punch.

 

Just woke up to my little pug making a loud unnatural howling/moaning sound. She was arching her back and kind of spasming. Pretty sure it was a seizure, so I just held her through it. Only lasted for a few seconds after she made the noise and woke me, but still makes me worry. I think shes had them a few times before, but only once before did she make that sound.

Afterward she seems kind of beat down or unsettled for a several minutes. She got out of bed and just laid a few feet away in the pug loaf position. Not normal behavior. She always wants to be close, so it is a sad thing to see her be withdrawn like that.

 

On doing more reading, apparently seizures can cause a dog's temperature to rise, so she might have moved away to the floor to cool down.

 

I’m so sorry man! I know how this feels. We had an Aussie that would have seizures and was the hardest thing to watch and be there for her. I hope that they don’t continue and it was just a one time thing!

 

Appreciated. This is the 3rd or 4th over the last year or two. It's only the second time she's made that sound though. Tugs the heart strings, but I just have to logic it to a calm place so I don't make her feel any worse.

 

Shit, that's rough. Hopefully she makes a full recovery. How old is she?

 

I think it's just going to become the new norm. Periodic seizures. She turned 12 a little over a month ago.

Dang.. let's hope she has a lot of time left.

My lab turns 11 in a couple weeks, she's getting really slow and stiff. That's going to be a tough one for us when she goes.

 

Yeah. Pugs are usually a 12-15 year breed, so I'm just trying to enjoy the time I have. More importantly, I want to help her enjoy the time. As for it being tough; if it's not tough to lose your dog, then you don't deserve to have one. Hell, I'm not sure many of us actually deserve the awesomeness that is a dog, but they are truly gifts that make our lives better.

 

I have not asked our resident vets, because without an examination I don't think they can provide much more than what is already known. Could be any of multiple things that cause a seizure, but to diagnose they'd need to see her. Could be anything as simple as something in her diet, to epilepsy, to PDE (Pug Dog Encephalitis). I suppose I should touch base with them to see if they have guidance on what to ask my vet and how the vet may diagnose things.

 

Got that right, dogs are better than people by far.
I don't doubt a bit that both of my dogs would die for my kids.

 

Yeah, my dog is my kid. Love her to pieces. She's a big part of me wanting to get back into camping. Her world has been too small for too long. I want to take her places and let her sniff everything as much as I can. She deserves it.

Been at work all day. I did briefly see her for about a minute on my lunch break, and she was awesome. She always is after a seizure.

Winery and dinner with some friends Saturday.
Chillin' Sunday, maybe take the kids and dogs on a hike. Should be a solid weekend
