I hear a noise that sounds like something engaging about 5 seconds after I initially take off in the morning. It will reoccur if the truck sits for a bit but not if I get back in and go fairly quickly. Any thoughts on what this may be? Pretty vague questions I know.

It's not the AC, doesn't seem to be the front joints, and the 4 wheel drive is solid when engaged.

2016 Tundra TSS with 5.7 liter and 4x4.

    Thoughts?

Probably the ABS self check. Happens every time you start and move the truck for the first time. Usually right at about the same speed and RMP. Sounds like a little thunk/thud, right?

Totally normal and functioning as designed, then. IIRC it should happen close to 9 MPH, but I might be fudging up the number.

Good to know, yeah, I get about two or three driveways away 10-15 mph +/- ?

This all makes sense. I recently purchase the truck used and, unfortunately, no owners manual. I was sweating a bit between the "thunk" and the high pitched whistle I figured out via another thread was the wire gasket behind the throttle body! Whew....everything's OK.

Yup. Not uncommon worries. I think you can get PDF owner manuals on the toyota site, but I might be wrong.

My first thought was to ask if you had retracted the flaps or landing gear right before you heard the noise but saw it was about your truck:)

I wonder if that’s what I notice. Thought it was something about the first time it shifted gears, always seemed a little harsh.

based on what I've seen, read or heard, I think the ABS self test noise could be the number one customer concern or complaint.

Toyota should put a big red or orange sticker somewhere. Maybe hanging from the mirror.

My number one complaint is the Integrated Brake Controller. Toyota should put a sticker there that says junk!
