    There's always option C:
Keep the Tundy for the heavy duty stuff, pick up a Taco for the runarounds... Best of both.

    2017 Supercharged V8 = 19mpg with 275/65/20 pizza cutters.
(13mpg when towing but I don't tow long distances)
    IMG_20180610_183152.jpg

    2006 4cyl 5spd Taco = 24-25mpg
    IMG_20180428_172944.jpg

They are really two completely different trucks. The funny thing is I can't fit shit in the 5.5' shoebox bed of the Tundra but can load the living hell out of the 6.5' Taco... go figure. Whenever I'm towing or heavy hauling, it's obviously the Tundy but for almost all other things , the Taco gets it done! Dump runs, couch moving, lawn tractor, snow thowers, clean outs, bike shuttles, etc. Absolutely love my Taco!
    Absolutely love my Tundra
    Win win

i had the same progression of trucks and as a bonus get to drive a Tacoma about every month or so. Despite liking how Tacoma's look, their offroad prowess and their ease of urban driving the rest just falls short of a Tundra. Thin doors, a cramped cabin, road noise, no power, only modestly better economy among many other nitpicky things that all equate to a lesser vehicle.
Even with fuel prices hitting historic highs at the end of the day it costs me $15 more to fill than it did at the same time last year so unless you're moving to an EV there isn't much to be gained.

13 MPG when towing is quite impressive. Must be the SC. I get about 8 MPG when towing! Nice looking pair of trucks.

    Thanks!
It would probably be less but I really don't tow very far (10-15 miles max) Also, the machines I'm towing are smaller, like in the pic, and I barely feel it behind me. The SC definitely makes it a breeze and I did do the TRD BBK too so braking is phenomenal.

When I got my 2020 Tundra it was so much more than my 2008 Tacoma. The Tundra has a 6" lift and 35's and is a handfull to drive in tight spots which I never have with the Tacoma. That's my reasoning for keeping both. 2 different types of tools. That hunting for gears thing in the Tacoma is not a problem if you have 6 speed manual.

My work provided 2021 Colorado gets an average of 20.8mpg , 50/50 city/highway. Its a V-6 ,it's small , uncomfortable and basically a small commuter car that looks like a truck.:puke:

    But I didn't pay for it..:cookiemonster:

I really love my Tundra, and plan to keep it for the long haul, but I really loved my 2020 Tacoma OR long bed. I miss that truck.

I have owned 5 Tacomas before I purchased my Tundra. Loved every single one of them. Traded in my 2015 Tacoma double cab that I owned for 6 years for the Tundra.
My son owns a 2019 Tacoma double cab and asked me if I miss my old Taco. I told him that as much as I liked all of my previous Tacoma trucks, I like the Tundra better. Now I think he
    is considering getting one too...LOLtaco5.jpg

Ford Ranger with a 2.3 4cylinder turbo gets around 20/23. The little Ford Maverick is better but a small unibody ain’t for everyone

Just get one of each. Both get crap gas mileage but I tell the wife otherwise.

If I ever went back to a midsize (have had four tacomas) the last one I would buy would be a Tacoma. The others are better. It would probably go in this order...

    1. Nissan Frontier
    2. Ford Ranger
    3. GMC Canyon
    4. Chevy Colorado
    5. Tacoma

Also for a commuter "truck" you can't beat the Ford Maverick hybrid at 40mpg.

I am a Toyota truck guy through and through. I had a 1986 turbo charged Toyota truck, a 1998 Tacoma, 2002 Tundra, 2005 landcruiser 100 (which I still have), 2014 fj cruiser, 2015 Tacoma dclb which I just traded in on my 2021 tundra. Honestly, the 2015 was a disappointment from the very beginning. The rattles in that truck were ridiculous. The seats rattled so much I had a pile of rags from harbor freight jammed in between and under the seats. The dealer told me it was “manufacturers tolerance”. The composite bed rattled in the cold so bad it sounded like someone was in the bed tapping on the back of the cab. It was mechanically solid but not the same quality control (made in Mexico) as my Japanese made trucks. I have no regrets moving on to another tundra. The frontier is also my favorite new small truck.

That’s a Tacoma I would gladly go back too…. Beautiful!

I would love to own a mint 1st Gen TRD Tacoma as a secondary vehicle to my Tundra.

Works great for me!...but it took me a year to find this one. Many folks beat the hell out of these little trucks, so good ones are hard to find.

Everyone beats the absolute snot out of them where I live and then consider them “well kept”. Comical if you ask me…

    Man am I jealous!!:101010:

My 1998 Tacoma was the same truck minus the TRD package. And my second was a 2003 in silver with the TRD package…loved them both better than my 2nd gen.

Many Thanks. I added the TRD Off Road labels so mine didn’t come that way. But I’ve installed King coil overs, JBA uppers, Progressive leafs, and a few other goodies. I’ve also got an OEM e-locker rear axle and controls that I plan to install soon…if I can find some extra time! This truck had 300k miles when I got it but living proof that even a high mileage Tacoma can breath new life.

I had 3 Tacomas, 11, 14, 18. The 18 killed it for me with the 3.5 and the lousy shifting 6 speed. I traded it for a new 19 Tundra and never looked back.

My dealer told me not to go from a Tundra to a Tacoma because I won’t like it. That says something

If you don’t mind driving a truck with the torque band of a dirt bike, go with the Tacoma. Otherwise stick with the Tundra.

Amen. I had a 2011 Taco with the 4.0, got about 17.5. Gas savings be damned, I love/use all the space and power... and like you said, the ride is much better in an equivalently equipped Tundra.

Loved the Taco, and I'll probably grab one again when my kids head to college and we stop towing and get a motorcoach... but the 2.5 gen Tundra is the perfect truck for my family at this point.

I just listed my Taco for a Tundra TRD PRO. My Taco had a supercharger but the power and the beauty of the Tundra had me convinced, the Tundra is a must. I also think the 8 cylinder Tundra will be desirable versus the new version. Simple and reliable. Good Luck.
