It isn't a major issue just a PITA to fix. Nobody is perfect, but Toyota comes close.

I used to work for Toyota, and while we didn’t see issues like this on new vehicles often at our dealership, we did have the occasional fluke. I’m taking a few times a year at a dealership where our volume was thousands of cars a month.

What I did see, however, is Toyota consistently do everything in their power to make it right. And it’s one of the many reasons I’ll always be loyal to the brand.

this is exactly what I wanted to hear and I really hope this is the case! I’m going to take your guys advice and try to get assigned a case manager from Toyota to see if that will help.

As pissed as I am, after sleeping on it, I really like the truck and want to give it another shot. Hopefully they will make things right.

The AC blew hot air during the test drive. They tried to fill it with freon (or whatever gas is used) and it wouldn't hold any. Toyota was fast to fly in engineers but wouldn't send replacement part. When the day came to pick the truck up
-I noticed bulges on all four wheel well flares from the fasteners. All four need replacing...I'm sorry to point this out to those who haven't noticed, now you will, LOL. Look at the black trim pieces at an angle and you can see anywhere from 2-8 fastener bumps. Now that I pointed it out, the dealership has noticed them on 3/4 Tundras coming in.
-both rear window seals need replacing
-there is a 12 square inch area on rear quarter panel with bumps in the paint, feels like 24 grit sandpaper
-They put auto-dimming mirror only on driver's side

The truck definitely has some quality control issues, but I love how it drives and the technology. For me, these issues infuriate me when I find them but that dissipates over time because I like the truck so much. I almost don't even notice the paint bumps now; I'm over it, so to speak. (yes, dealership is going to fix all these issues, but it is over an hour drive for me, so we are doing them all at once)

I live in Friendsville (it's near Maryville) and used Fox Toyota. They are selling at MSRP and my sales guy, Karl, was exceptional!

In my experience with Toyota and as a former employee, this is absolutely not normal.

I hate you had this experience. Most of it sounds easily fixable except the paint issue. The shop foreman at the dealership I worked at was often called by Toyota to help diag issues around the country. They really won’t leave a stone unturned.

Heck, they paid to rent a camper one time to help us diagnose a wiring issue that one customer was having with his personal camper so we had something to compare it to.

Eh, I'm trying not to sweat the small stuff. It's aggravating but definitely first world problems. I could have it a lot worse than having issues with my new $65G truck! Just turn on the news and bumps in my paint doesn't seem too serious.

It was kinda odd how Toyota handled the problem at the start. A manager of some type called Toyota right after we discovered the issue, while I was still there. It was determined it wasn't going to be repaired that day (Thursday) so I left. I received a call first thing Friday that said Toyota has authorized the dealership's two master mechanics to be pulled off all other tasks and had 8 hours to diagnose the issue, otherwise they were flying in a team of engineers. The issue was discovered late Friday afternoon and Toyota was notified of the find and needed part. The following Tuesday a team of engineers arrived to see the issue first hand. It baffles me how they knew what the problem was and could have brought the part to see the issue and repair first hand but they didn't. The dealership fought for 5 weeks to get the part, which I was told was a very simple part.

This is my first Toyota product....the jury is still out, LOL.

    Sorry about your troubles OP.
Love you trucks color, but your truck sounds like a lemon.
We had a 99 Lexus GS300 like that once.

Buying any domestic vehicle will be a much worse experience.
You came to the right brand, but at the wrong time, and bought the wrong vehicle.

    Lessons learned here.

    1. Don't buy the 2022 Tundra.
    2. Don't buy the first of a new model/major redesign of anything, ever.
    3. Don't buy vehicles made during the first modern pandemic.
    4. Don't buy domestic vehicles unless you need a diesel for towing.

Most Toyota vehicles are usually as reliable as the sun rising and setting.

My family will never buy anything else, unless they go all electric/hybrid, or I need and can afford a diesel.
I have owned many domestics and worked on thousands.
    There is no comparison.

Just made a case with Toyota, hopefully they will make it right.

The problem is I didn’t have much of a choice. I needed a new truck because my Silverado had a broken exhaust manifold bolt and was a ticking time bomb. The used market is so messed up right now and forced me to go new.

It seems like all truck builders these days have so many issues. And they are more expensive than ever, go figure. My old Sierra is the only truck I’ve had that never had ANY issues.

    I can understand that.

The used and new markets are a joke right now for sure.

I am sure Toyota will take care of you, but it still sucks that is your first impression of Toyota.
They really are the best and no other brand is even remotely close in general.

Now cutting edge tech is not part of that, but reliability and your moneys worth is.
If your rich and change vehicles every 3 years buy whatever tickles your fancy.
If you buy things to own, or keep them for many years, always buy Toyota (nonhybrid/electric only)

Out of all the issues that have gone wrong with the new gen, the one that gets me is the window seal that is too short. Yes, this is a very minor issue and easily fixed. However, with its high visibility, they knew the seal was too short at the factory and intentionally let it out the door. Their gamble is they’ll fix the ones that are noticed after the sale instead of fixing it right at the plant. IMO, this was an intentional slip in QA to watch out for the bottom dollar instead of producing a higher quality product.

Well I got the truck back today. They actually did a pretty good job other than a small scratch from panel tools on the drivers door. My truck was built in February and doesn’t have the door seal issue thank god, so they may have fixed that.

Toyota just called and offered me a 6 year 100000 mile gold extended warranty. To be honest, at this point, I am very happy about the way they have taken care of me.

    I told you! :)

I always tell my employees that what sets a company apart isn’t that they don’t make mistakes, because they all do. It’s how they handle those mistakes that sets companies apart.

I loved my time with Toyota - they always made it easy to take care of our customers.
