Luckily, I had a first class pit crew that rebuilt it right there on the trail (@papasmurf cannibalized seat bolts from all the other trucks on the run to replace the ones that sheered off to cause this LBJ failure). Then I drove it home from Sedona to San Diego.

Lol. Neither. Midway through a curve to the left at ~ 30mph. Proof God loves me though: we’d *been* going fast the day before. Including on the freeway. Lots of blessings, this photo reminds.

This truck (before I renounced my GM ways or the trans shit the bed, you decide) was 2WD and had 10-ply highway tires that were E-rated. This happened a couple different times hot-rodding around camp.

Got stuck in my own backyard before.

Views from outside a stuck truck. This was a fun recovery overall though, and no the 22RE didn't pull me out.

This next one will stick with me for awhile. I didn't get stuck this time, but this is the aftermath of a person I came across that was incredibly lucky. It was about 105 degrees in the Joshua Tree desert, a place with no cell service that can be very desolate at times. I only came across them because I wanted to pull off the road and find a secluded spot to stop and eat lunch (I was already familiar with this road and what conditions to expect). I was not expecting to see a single person on this trail in that heat. These people were lucky that 1. someone actually came across them and stopped, 2. the person that did was prepared.

At the start of the road, there is a sign that says do not proceed without 4WD and plenty of water. These people didn't have 4WD and only had limited water. If they had tried to make a couple of miles to the highway by foot, they would have likely started to suffer from heat stroke/ dehydration. If they got to the highway, they'd then have to wait along the scorching asphalt and be lucky enough where someone stops.

The vehicle was a 2WD Blazer on street tires, absolutely buried to it's rear axle and sitting on the gas tank. The blazer did not have a tow hitch or a good spot on the frame to hook onto! I determined the easiest way for it to come out the way was the way it went in, and the only place I could tie a soft shackle to was their rear sway bar. It took a lot of digging to clear out underneath from the blazer, but my truck popped it out easily with the help of some plywood and a kinetic rope. Most importantly it didn't rip off the rear sway bar or axle. Drug them back to the highway for good measure and they were on their way.

This is a different kind of stuck, but it follows the same theme of desert flash floods in
@eccracer104 's post. A few years back, we were at the Colorado River and a bad thunderstorm came in. The wash next to our camp started to flow, then water tore the road up opposite to the wash leaving us no way out. There was a solid 8 hours we were stuck on an "island" with rising water. When the storm subsided, we had to stack rocks and make a detour where the road washed out.

I’ve never had my Tundra stuck in 5 1/2 years. Spun out and had to chain up? Oh yeah. But not stuck. I must be getting old.

This is not a truck, but he is definitely "off road"
They messed around with trying to get it off the tracks for a bit... Then said "fuck this shitbox" and plucked it off the rails with a big ass excavator.
