I am too. I’ll be glad to buy the next Toyota when it’s time. Maybe. Probably. Not sure. It’s a long way off.

I've been getting the parkig break malfunction warning, it seems to clear when I shut off the engine and restart. It happened once and stopped but now it's happening almost every trip (clearly there's an issue).

Engine seems normal.... hoping it's an actual issue with the parking break and not the turbo issue.

Well, I'm on this site strictly because I sought more info for the '22 truck for which I've have been scouring the web for over two years.
Scoping out every tidbit of info. I've got a deposit and build done it's delayed due to trucking issues, got the text Wednesday about that..

Right now I'm looking for a '20 or '21, I'll get a gen 3 when I suspect the bugs are cleaned up. I can't afford to be stuck 1500 miles from home with a truck camper in Canada somewhere. A total clusterf ck. Besides, can't even buy camper mounts at this point, I'd probably have to design my own.

Have never seen anything like this truck debut and the nuanced shit. Crazy.

I was planning to wait a while then the turbo issues started to die down so I started knocking around to dealers seeing if I could get in one before the fed hikes rates and the trade value of my 16 tanks.
Not being able find one to test drive before putting down a deposit, no solid fix for the wastegate issue, and continued qc and other random issues have put me out.
I want one bad but I can't have a waste gate fail halfway to the ramp on tourney morning, 500 miles from home with a 7k-lb travel travel, or in the middle of a work contract out of state.

Vehicles of all makes produced during COVID have questionable quality.

I'm going to sit out for another year or two until the manufacturers unf*ck this and let someone else be the guinea pig.

Everyone thinks the TT V6 is complicated and so much so more than the prior 5.7's would have really pissed down both legs if Toyota would have put a diesel in it lol. Not that Diesels are super complicated....but Toyota's would have been.

    Forget about the profit.
On paper it sounds like we would start out in the Black you say $6-8k profit. But we are buying at MSRP - Dealers make $6k on the base models, and the rest of your $2k profit gets sucked up because you/I end up needing to put on a new tonneau cover (if you can find a good hard top), do Line X or Bed Cover, other accessories.
And ......we end up in the Red when, if, we change out the tires.
The '22 has large wheel wells and those stock 18 tires look really small - to me anyway.

So we get a '22 because we want one for whatever other reason/s, and we know Toyota will take care of us if problems come up.
If we are planning some long trips to the boonies, and are nervous still, about being stranded far away; maybe wait longer for the '23 to set your mind at ease.
I have yet to hear of any problems fixed, that have reoccurred, and the biggest complaint seems to be having to wait a long time for parts to repair issues.

Might be how you’d roll, but not me. If I sold, I’d bank all the $ and drive my Sequoia. About my last move would be a new 22. If used prices return to rational levels, maybe get another 16-18 SR5 or + or wait until the bugs are out of the new model and try a hybrid in 3-4 years.

That's different if you don't need a replacement, but it comes with a catch. A big one where I live.
I don't know where you are located but in Ontario, Canada its 13% tax. On a $60k vehicle that is an additional cost. $7800.
If you are not trading your truck on another, you lose that card.
Also keep in mind as an example for a private sale.
My son could not sell his low mileage 3 year old car privately late last year, due to no one wanting to pay the tax.
You see they had a trade in vehicle too, and wanted to play that card also, which can only be done with a dealer.
He ended up trading his car to a dealer for a 4Runner, who ended up giving him about $1500 less than he could have got, and they sold it for about $2000 above that. So he saved most of the tax. $500 instead of $5000.
But this is not really the thread for this discussion. Just saying.
All the facts need to be known before making a decision.

If we’re talking about selling a $40k-50k vehicle that we own outright and not putting its equity into another vehicle purchase, that’s a decent-sized chunk of money that can then be put to work for you. Vehicle sales tax is only 7% in TN. Yes I would save that if I trade the vehicle in, and yes it’s a factor for people buying outright from me, but I can get that back investing the money pretty quickly. If I had other vehicles right now in addition to my daily driver, I would’ve done just that at some point in the last 6 months, as it seems to me we’re just past peak used vehicle value. Just my two cents.

Gold star sticker for you sir!

Also agreed, Toyota likely will have to repair it for you. Alternative is to get their butt sued off for contract default. So you got that going for you.

    C'mon man.

Whatever the case, would still like to know how many February trucks have actually failed, and how far into that month were there issues?
Personally have read of one actual early Feb build. Everything else is anecdotal.

If one assumes 275 miles a week is typical mileage and these trucks haven't been sitting on lots for weeks waiting for buyers it looks like 6 on FB + 1 more on here. Actual is likely several multiples of that, but Toyota is not putting out a single word on the matter. Others will insist most all of these are just early builds that were held up in transit for one reason or another, but I think that is wishful thinking. We are seeing documented February builds failing full stop. I'll be disappointed, but not surprised if we see March builds as well.

Also tech manual show there is no new replacement part and no news out of Toyota if/when a different part will be available. Part that fails is is same part being installed as "repair". That might be fine if it was just a resolved QC issue, but continued failures of recent builds begs the question if that is the actual issue or if it is, that its been fixed.

    Not really.
Never said there was not an issue with some of the Tundra's and Turbo's.
Just not passing unsubstantiated information most likely covered several different times and certainly magnified.
You hear the same drum being banged off beat and counter to solving the issue, then the message becomes lost in the background.

Toyota knows how to make good diesels, they just aren't clean enough for the USA, so few made it here as imports.

I don't know if they're 'complicated' yet I doubt they'd overcomplicate one like the Germans do, now those guys way over-engineer things....

Toyota has a lot of interesting Diesels that run hard and have great mileage.........just don't meet our EPA Standards.

Just because the part number is the same, doesn't mean there isnt a different build list to the component. Why they do that is stupid and I will never understand, but they do.

Case in point the latest steering gear recall. Yes there were part numbers for the affected gears BUT only the ones that fell within a certain mfg / build date were the ones affected.

Agreed 100%, but in the absence of Toyota putting out those certain mfg / build dates how should we know otherwise.

It’s incredibly tedious and drawn out to certify diesels in USA. They’re already pretty clean and meet strict regulations in Europe and Australian. It’s really not worth it for Toyota especially considering the sales volume. Even Ford pulled the diesel from their F150 likely due to low sales volume.

Again, no. But then things reported via Turdbook AKA Facebook lack accuracy and become the ultimate 1st grade communications game.

1st kid told the story. Sally tripped and fell breaking her nose. 30 iterations later as message passed along the other 30 classmates becomes an entirely different story. Thats the point.

Many are posting photos of check engine light messages, OBD codes and repair bills. Even a few of the actual repair. However you are flat questioning their honesty. It’s clear there is not a reasonable burden of proof that will convince you. We get it, you own one and are nervous about this. However, please cease attacking those having issues or talking about the issue. We wish you best of luck with your tuck and hope you don’t have issues, but please stop bullying those that have the issue or want to discuss it.

Nobody wants to spend 60-70k on something and realize later that they might have fucked up. They want positive reinforcement that they've made a good choice and got in on something that others are only dreaming to obtain.
