Got my running boards in today. Anyway you can take some pictures of how your's are mounted up @shifty` ? They came with all the brackets and no bolts. I got under it today and lined it up, think I have a general idea. I am in no rush, probably won't install them until week after next

 

Ping me if I don't get back to you within 48 hours. Happy to take the pics. I'm a little behind on a ton of things right now. Emergency garage door opener replacement at home, and a leak from our upstairs bathrooms.

Do they share a wall? I'm going with drain leak from one. But, I just like to throw stuff out there. Good luck.

 

Your guess is same as mine. Wall is shared between two bathroom double-vanities. Dual sinks on each in similar position on either side of wall. Sinks on either side of wall Y-together, then both pairs Y into a single drain downstairs. Leak seems to be approximately mid-way between the pairs of adjacent sinks, so my guess is there's a leak where all four come together to a single drain. It's the most logical explanation ...

Bathroom remodel was done within the last 18 months. Potentially requires tearing out a $1,200 cabinet (excluding countertops) to access the join where the leak may be, so I'll be on the horn with the GC whose brother did the plumbing promptly tomorrow. I'll be damned if I'm tearing out stuff to solve this. I saw how jankety the plumbing is for the master bath earlier (they remodeled that about 36mos ago) after a deep dig, I'm sure you and I are both right.

It sucks b/c I grew up in a house where you had to build and fix everything, money was tight. After marrying "up", resources are around to bid out jobs, which is nice ... until it's not. I've come to a point where I hate paying for other people in to work on my shit because 4 times out of 5, I do better work, I have better attention to detail, and I'm thinking ahead about how I'm going to get to it to service later if something fails.

These two bathroom remodels were two of those times I opted to pass, and here we are. I remodeled the kitchen in '09, it's been flawless. On the other hand, this is the 3rd issue we've had with the bathrooms already. It was nice to sit back and watch, but clearly I'll be paying for it more than once down the road.

This is just another throwback to when HVAC dude tried to scam us on the furnace a few weeks back. Asshole probably thought it was an easy win. Saved $12k with a $25 part because I did the legwork. I just ... WTF happened to work ethic? I'd expect the older crowd to actually give a shit with how much they bag on the younger generations. But they seem to be the ones I have the most issues with half-assing everything.

 

It's the hard truth. No one cares about your house but you. Even the good GCs have workers that don't give a shit because it's not theirs. There are those that still take pride in their work, but good luck finding them. I have one of the best mechanics around here, and I have a hard time using his shop. I save it for the stuff I can't do or don't have time for. Less and less thanks to guys like you.

 

@shifty` can you use a scope on stuff like that to identify the location?

 

If I knew how to make memes I’d make a Dr.Strange one- early in the movie when he’s in the hospital after just waking up and sees his hands for the first time and is appalled at the work, Dr.Palmer (Rachel McAdams) tells him ‘no one could have done it better’ he says ‘I could have…’ I feel that way a lot.

We’re in middle of a house build, I’m pretty detail oriented and *could* have done most of it just the way I wanted it, but it would have taken too long and been impractical for various reasons, so we have had contractors doing most of the major steps. Even the good contractors mess things up and do things just not how I would, and most have had to redo various things because they were just plain wrong, it’s frustrating to say the least.

Fun story, a couple weeks ago I was walking up to the build and saw the drywall assistant standing behind the building peeing on the corner of the house! WTF, he even made eye contact with me as I walked by. This is out in the woods, you could literally pee anywhere else and it would be fine.
I can’t wait for all the contractors to be done an outta there so I can just finish it up the way I want.

 

I mean ... your story is my story too. Look no further than my alternator drama. I'll still go back to this specific mechanic, but I'm pissed he didn't listen and installed a 100A alternator when my truck had tow pkg, came with the larger alt, and I even warned him about it before leaving. I should've just done the work myself to start with but they've been pretty solid previously and I had to travel for work.

Pinged GC this morning. His brother (really nice guy) is coming over with a scope. Sadly, I don't have a scope. It's one of those tools I've mulled over getting a number of times in the moment when I need it, then I get past the situation w/o one, and put it off until the next time. Meh.

Been researching different bikes. You like KTM right? Need to PM you soon and pick your brain. Can't figure why they cost so much more than the competition. I've been looking at the Honda CRF 300L. I suspect you do much different type of riding in the desert than I'll be doing.

I'm still not sure if I would recommend them as a first bike to someone. But you get what you pay for with them. I think once you ride one, or ride with someone that has one you'll understand them a little better. They're exceptionally engineered and ride very well. KTM figured out early on how to "detune" their race bikes enough to get them street legal and position themselves a few years ahead of competition. On paper, KTM regularly beats competitors in horsepower and torque. Not that motorcycles are investments, but KTMs hold their value well. I sold my last bike for more than I bought it for.

I changed the sprocket sizes to set the gearing where I'm not in and out of gears as much in the slow stuff. That's something you can do easily with any bike to change how power is delivered to the rear wheel.

The CRF300L looks quite decent though and I would test ride it if someone offered. It seems Honda has stepped up their dual sport game a bit - they offered a 230 dual sport for a few years which a friend had and it was an absolute dog.

My next dual sport will probably be a KTM.

 

Rode the ol GT into work today, not to bad of a ride, definitely not in top gear like I used to be but I still made really good time!
