I did sound deadening and upgraded my door speakers today. I had everything wrapped up and was reinstalling the door panel on the rear driver side ( crew max) when I got distracted by my neighbor then my contractor came by to measure for a job. In the midst of all this the door I was working got shut. It will not open now. I know I messed up and switch the door lock and door handle cables because when I hit the unlock button the handle moves:frusty: It won’t open no matter what I try. The door panel is on so I have no access to anything from the inside.

anyone else pull this brainless maneuver? Am I royally screwed? I’m going to see if I can get it slim Jimmed tomorrow. Any other ideas? Thanks for any helpful insight

After messing around some more, I’m realizing I’m probably going to have to cut up the door panel. I might have to start with the handle.
Anyone have a PN for the DS rear door panel and door handle assembly?

I did this exact thing with my driver door a couple years ago. I remember freaking out and searching and somewhere ran across someone who told me to try and pry the door panel back at window seem.

I ended up being able to pry the door panel back by the window enough to get to the release cable and get it open. I did bend it up a little

Just ordered a replacement inside door handle assembly. Tomorrow I think I’ll attempt to dremel the handle and lock to see if I can get to the cables.

Made a little progress. I cut the lock out without messing anything up. I was able to access the door cable. Unfortunately it wouldn’t open the door no matter how hard I pulled the cable. So I think the handle is holding it locked with the lock cable attached. I will try to cut the handle out tomorrow and try to free the lock cable from the handle. I should be able to open it from the outside at that point I would think. Hope!

Why won't it open from the outside?
I remember putting the inside cables on the wrong things on my 2014 front doors.
But the outside latch still worked..

Can you pull the window switch assembly from the door, then get your hand in there to disconnect the two cables? Or at least pull on the lock cable.

whup, just saw your current pics.

Negative there is a plug with the wires and a flat part under the handle of the door panel obstructing that route.
The door handle replacement was only $33 and I’ve already cut the shit up so I’ll continue with the handle. Hopefully save the door panel. I’ll report back tomorrow

Can’t figure it out. My only thought is it’s in the locked position due to the cable being stretched by the handle.

I started thinking I accidentally hit the child lock but it should still open from the outside.

That sucks. Sorry man. I know how frustrating those situations are. Don’t get too carried away. Everything can be fixed. I’d call a locksmith before cutting up the panel any more - those guys can Jimmy open just about anything. Good luck and keep us posted

I did the exact same thing with my front driver's side. If I remember correctly, I was able to open it up from the inside but not the outside.
The ball at the end of the cable came out. Had to use a large torx or star driver to remove the lock mechanism from door to get it back on.

Theres something odd going on than the cables. If you pull the outside door handle it pushes a bar downward and that operates the door latch. Has nothing to do with the cables. Did you mess with the door internals when you were doing this?

I was wondering if something else could get messed up. I literally slapped some sound deadening on and bolted the speakers up. The door panel was snug going back on and I had to remove/ reinstall the cables a few times when I was reinstalling the door panel. I was really careful and always take the time to do the job right so I can’t imagine anything on the inside getting messed up. I’m going to get back into it this afternoon with my neighbor the locksmith, hopefully I can report back with good news.

    Is the child lock on?
If yes, pulling the handle cable won't do anything. You would have to pull the lock cable and the outside door handle at the same time... I think.

I did this on my FJ Cruiser once, I had to pop off the little door lock cover on the door panel (the small piece that pivots above the handle). Then I grabbed the eyelet on the cable with pliers and pulled on it very hard. The door popped open and I was able to take off the door panel and reverse the cables to the correct connections. Good luck!

Regardless of the cables being hooked up to the inner door lock and handle, can you not just put the key in the drivers door lock and unlock all the doors and open from the outside?

That sucks. I've been waiting on some warm weather to sound deaden my doors. Now I know what to look out for. I just tried to remove mine from the inside with the door shut. I was able to pop loose the rear top panel. Didn't pry on it but maybe you can get to slide up enough to give you room to pop all the bottom clips. Then slide it up enough to get it the front edge out of the window sill. That push clip on the back panel you can't get will still be in but maybe you can angle the panel up.

    Hope you figure it out.

    Reporting success!!
I very carefully cut the door handle off. Took some time as I wanted to preserve the door panel. Finally got it off the cable and both cables were free. For a few mins it still would still not open. After messing with it some it opened!!
Like @Rubberdown said there was something else going on. The cables were not working properly. So my neighbor took the whole lock assembly out.
We found that the lock cable came out of the track on the lock end and was stuck in the lock position. We got it back together and everything seems good for now. I’m waiting til my new handle comes in and make sure everything is good before I reinstall the door panel.
I’ll report back when I get the handle

Glad you got it figured out.
Had to be something like that otherwise, it would have opened from the outside.

Without the door panel, you can still open the door from the inside pulling the appropriate cable if needed.
Might need a pair of pliers or something to grab it.
