Broken Dakar leaf spring

So today I found my rear driver side leaf pack broken, a center leaf from my arb lift kit with Dakar leaf pack. I’ve been hearing a rattling the past few nights on my way into work, figured it was my skid plate cause the tires still occasionally run on it. So I took a look under the truck to find half a leaf just hanging out. No heavy loads, she’s basically a mall crawler(if I went to the malls) I have it zip tied up for now. Gotta call the shop and try to get ahold of an arb email for warranty info. Should be covered, just shitty timing with threat of layoffs and working midnight.

 

Actually I’ll prolly have to pay labor

that’s good ole New York for you. Only 2 winters. The lift was installed in August 2018. It’s a 2018 truck

 

Damn man, I sure hope they warranty that for you.. I wanted OME on my Tacoma for years as guys rave about them, but never pulled the trigger.. When I got my Tundra it was top of my list.. Untill I made the call an was warned that they don't do well in winter/road salt states.. Geezz looking at the pictures an that's only 2 years?? Damn I'm glad I went a different direction...Hope they get it fixed up for you..

 

Thanks, yea me too. If all this rona shit wasn’t going down and the threat of job loss id look into icon or something else. Right now I just need it fix with as little out of my pocket as possible. definitely disappointed. I had the same exact set up on the taco for 4 years without problem so let’s hope it’s a fluke. I get krown undercoating every year too, but I don’t think it sticks to the ‘moving’ parts like suspension

 

I hear ya. I'm surprised even with coating it with something like Krown that the rear shocks look totally surface rusted like that. I went with Toytec Alumas in the front for this very reason (salt) but have heard the boss rears will rot over time also.. I used woolwax an it stuck like glue this year.. time will tell.. So your Taco OME held up much better?

I don't think you will have much better luck with any other brand as far as rust is concerned. I would just get it replaced under warranty. I've seen a few threads in the Tacoma forums about broken OEM Toyota leafs in rust belt areas, it happens not a total shocker.

 

Myra taco was solid and that saw more off-roading than this did and even that is nothing in comparison to what some people do with this set up. Shit happens it’s just more frustrating due to time smh. I’m in contact with arb. My local shop quoted 2.5hours just under 300 in labor, cause I’m pretty sure I’ll have to cover that. The shop that did the lift is like 40 mins out and working midnights time is sleep so if I can I’ll go to my normal guy.

 

Yea I agree, shit happens. Like I said my taco Dakar leaf pack held up great 4 winters. Hopefully the next one will hold out better. I know arb isn’t a garbage company. Musta been a Friday pack lol

 

Ouch that’s rough! I’ve had my Dakar’s for a few years now and love them. Hopefully warranty covers you!

So new leaf pack came in. That was covered under warranty. Def feels normal again. I’m pretty sure it was busted for a few weeks. Now time for that battery and to retint my windows.

definitely consider everything going on. Also quick turn around for the garage. Originally I was dropping it off today for work Tuesday. But they got me in today. I woke up (3rd shifter) confused as to how my truck was done lol.

 

Coat that thing with some fluid film. I had an issue with a ARB leaf spring on my 2001 Tacoma. Hit a stump messing around a pond at about 35 mph with the hammer down. My friend was sitting in the back jump seat and his head bounced off the ceiling. Actually bent the leaf spring and had to replace it. Good times.

 

Just had my passenger rear break in the same spot. Purchased in 2018 and maybe 25-30k miles. Have a FWC camper on full time at around 1000#.
