Better than starting a new one on the same topic IMHO.

I ended up going the EXPENSIVE route with most of it & getting Toyota OEM black replacement trim pieces. What sucks is the little piece under the right side of the guage cluster ("wood look" in my truck) is only available in black in column-shift trucks & is designed slightly differently & doesn't fit floor-shift trucks (exterior shape slightly different but also the tabs don't line up). So I ended up with the stereo/climate control surround, the other two trim pieces that were "wood look", the leather dash pieces around the vents, & black vents.

I'm still debating whether or not to get the door handles & steering wheel trim. The handles have to be from a Sequoia I think. There are a couple options for the steering wheel trim. Either way I have to paint that one little trim piece because I can't find it available on any year any trim that fits a TRD. I also need to decide between the SEM lambeau black everyone uses or Color Bond. Eventually I want to also get those trim pieces under the arm rests in the doors & the leather panels on the doors. My 2016 was awesome because it was completely blacked out as far as the seat belts and all the leather, but without vented seats the black got pretty hot in the summer so I like my current two-tone light gray & dark gray seats.

To answer your question though, from my research I think if you do a good prep/paint job on any of the trim with a quality paint you'll get good results.
