    I'm with you.

That's the main reason why I bought a 2015 last year. The newer they are, the more gadgets and nannyware there are, and I'm not interested in it.

I would have got an older one if I could have.

Maybe so. Seems like a self-fulfilling prophecy to me. How many people passed over the Tundra or bought one but then sold it for an HD truck? I think Toyota would do really well in the HD market. At least give us a heavy duty payload package iForce Max truck.

I never cared too much for the looks of the new Titan to be honest. While waiting for my Frontier paperwork to be finalized I checked out a new Titan Platinum and a Pro4-X that were on the lot. I was stunned. Not bad at all. My lil 22 Frontier has the same 9 speed. Mercedes clone made under license by Nissan at Jatco in Japan. Pricey though but what new loaded truck isn't?

Someone with a ‘22 do an apples to apples 87 vs 93 octane comparison.

requested by someone with passing curiosity and no skin in the game.

I can only fantasize about the gobs of power to be made on aftermarket tuning on the iForceMax. If the tuners can just fine tune and bypass the ECU with the hybrid motors... I wouldn't be shocked to see 700-800+ fb/lbs of torque

My wife actually drives the truck, petit girl in a big truck, and she could not stand the new Tundra and all the mis-matched colored trim pieces. I got her a new XD Pro4X and she loves the way it looks and drives. It was $60k ish msrp but I paid $54.5k. No way I could get anything off msrp for a new Tundra. I will say that the tundra trade in value was phenomenal. So I’ll miss the way tundras hold their value and the XD is drinking gas at 12 mpg.

this is not apples. I mean fuel milage. Maybe drivability. Dad says moms qx80 is way happier on high test and downshifts easier on swill. I havent driven enough to notice, but since its direct injection i can see it as a possibility. A turbo compounds that. Maybe feb temps vs aug temps.

I have recently been getting deep into fuel research. Octane doesn't increase MPG, it will gain power on most modern cars that are turbocharged and direct injected cars, the ECU will adapt and increase timing. The octane number is more like a knock reducer. Your 93=/=93 octane ethanol free.

Ethanol free 93 will get better MPG than 10% ethanol pump octane.

My dad works at valero. :transformer:

the higher octane allows some DI engines to run more efficient timing at higher pressures. And a fine tuned engine could be unhappy enough on swill to hurt the cats or fuel milage.

ethanol is a waste of space and doesnt carry enough btu to be worth it.

Toyota has lost their way in my eyes, but their marketing department says I'm wrong which means I am in the minority and most everyone disagrees with me.

I miss the plain and simple designs that were common, even up to 2006! If they made vehicles that were lesser-equipped, and to the extent that they were like a 1987 Hilux, I would be a lifer. For a family sedan, yeah give me some options, but for a pickup give me utilitarian.

Man, I feel the same way. I think the 2nd gen Tundra is the closest we get to extremely reliable, utilitarian vehicle. Even if its payload is underrated.

But I agree; if we could get a Hilux or a 79 Series in the US, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

My Frontier's 3.8L is DI but not too concerned. I put on less than 9K miles per year and buy only top tier fuel.

I don't have have any skin in the game when it comes to the 22. I still don't care to much for the front grille, but that wouldn't stop me from buying the 22 tunny. A true new gen that has some quirks that Yota will iron out. For what it's worth.....I have a coworker that traded in his crap ass 3rd gen Taco on a new Sierra AT4. Only 15K miles now. Limp mode twice. Both times the dealer couldn't find the problem. Cleared the CEL. Both times my friend had to get a ride to work from his girlfriend that has a totally tricked out 21 Taco Pro with the crappy ass tranny and piss poor Atkinson 6. The dealer wouldn't give him a loaner.
This morning...."Matt, you want to buy my AT4?" Me...."Fuck no."

I’m actually considering going to a GMC 1/2 ton from my tundra. They make 3 engines for that truck. Two are awesome and one is complete trash. Wondering which he has and what caused the limp mode.

Everyone has their tastes. Hell, I know people who think the Honda Ridgeline is the do-all truck.

I've had a few people approach me about my truck and compliment me on it already, and it's nothing that special. A TRD Off Road SR5 with the leather and the big screen in Army Green.

I've owned my '22 for about two weeks and 1500 miles now. There are some quirks that need smoothed out with the infotainment but it is overall a very nice truck. It rides super smooth and is more powerful that the 2nd gen. I even jumped back in a 2nd gen with the 5.7 a few days ago to compare power and no doubt, the 3rd gen has it beat even with the base motor.

It's just a smooth truck, the rear coils ride great and the engine and tranny work so well together. The TT V6 sounds like $hit compared to the 5.7 but I'll make that trade for the power, shifting, and E-Locker.

My gripes are the same as everyone else. Not having front tow hooks is dumb and I've used them on NUMEROUS occasions in my Tacomas and 4Runners so I'll need to figure out a solution there

ALSO whoever put my truck together at the factory gave me one auto dimming side mirror and one non auto dimming! SR5s don't have auto dimming mirrors and having one dim mirror drives me nuts. I'm getting the dealership to get me the part to match. Must've been built on a Friday or something.

MPG isn’t about cost at all for me it’s about range. Not because I want to hold my piss for 6hrs but because I don’t want to have to get gas every week or even every few days driving around town and I don’t want to stop and hope to find an easy in and out gas station every 200miles when towing my boat.

I love my tundra and the 5.7 is awesome but getting gas all the time is a real PIA. I’m strongly looking at the GM 3.0 duramax diesel.

I had two 3rd gen Tacos. One manual and one auto. The manual helps, the shift logic in the auto is so bad. I don't know why they would release a truck that drove like that and not offer a fix. The 3.5 engine is ok (definitely preferred the 4.0) but damn the way they program it to shift is whack

Correct, but it is unmatched if you want to make true HP and have the tuning/fuel pump to deliver.

Also can you ask you dad a question for my curious knowledge? I use my local valero for Ethanol in the 911. Makes big power. I'm super duper lucky that this particular Valero has E98 on pump. Basically pure ethanol, smells like tequila. It's an incredibly cheap alternative to 100 octane which I pay 3.99 for compared to 10 bucks a gallon for 100.

Where does Valero get their Ethanol/E85 from?

Count me among those who have nothing bad to say about my 2017 Ridgeline, which is a great mid-size truck that does what I need it to do. A couple minor bulletins/recalls, and I seem to have missed some of the issues with the 6-speed that others have had, but over 90,000km on it and never once threw a code or CEL.

Is that the new gen? A family member had one of the first gens and it started having issues pop up before 100k. He bought it instead of a 2nd gen Tacoma. They were both the same price at the time and that Tacoma would've been worth about $20k right now and the Ridgeline was sold for $6...

Anyway, I do like them too (secretly). I also like the Maverick. They're just more cars with beds than trucks but I won't throw too much shade at them, I really do like them and think they have their purpose.

I've never ever come across a Ridgeline up on mountain "trails" here. Never. Not exactly "do all" .......

It’s a first year 2nd generation. Funny enough, pretty high demand here for these, owing I suppose to them being “only city trucks”, but I am getting more this year on trade-in than what was offered last year. Crazy, crazy, market out there.

Fair enough, but for me, climbing trails was not something I needed in a truck. Hauling a small trailer and picking up wood for the business. Now that we are getting a bigger trailer, full size it is.

Everyday utility is definitely better than say, a Tacoma. If I lived in a city and didn't have to hit the dirt for hunting and fishing a Ridgeline would tick all the boxes.

I still wouldn't do it... but their usefulness is there

Dont know. With the room the ridgeline has one is better to run a minivan or cube van. Honestly, how often do ridgeline users really use that bed? In my eyes same fail like the Avalanche, just uglier.

This made me laugh. JBL sucked in my first gen and it sucks in my 2016. I was hopeful for the 22

I can’t speak for all Ridgeline drivers, but personally, I use mine multiple times per week to pick up wood / drop furniture. But I would suspect there are folks who drive other full- and mid-size trucks who are loading the bed that often. Just depends on the user I’d say.

Having a bed is so useful. Anything you'd put in a van or SUV that is dirty like dirt or mulch or rocks, if you put it in a bed you just hose it out. The utility of having a bed is a huge factor.

I lived the SUV life for years with 4Runners. Not going back. Maybe as a second vehicle, but I usually have two trucks. I'm currently looking for a 3rd gen 4runner or a 1st gen Tacoma to pair with my new Tundra
