Just curious how everyone is doing gas mileage wise and if anyone has found anything that improves it? I didn’t buy the truck for gas mileage, just curious. I drive stop and go a lot and this is the max mpg I’ve ever gotten :spending:

    Too many, but not enough....
Wait one damn minute, are we saying this truck gets bad gas mileage?????

Do you have 35s and a 6 inch lift or something? I currently have no lift, bunch of added weight, and stock size E load tires and still manage to get 18 highway if I keep it under 70, which isn't hard in California traffic.

You drove 420 miles and your Tundra got the munchies and gobbled up a lot of gas.

    J/K...

That seems really low...I would hand calculate it and see if it is accurate.

Aerodynamics are about the biggest thing that will tank your mileage. If you add bigger tires, lift, heavier wheels, etc. you're going to lose mileage. Stop and go is going to suck no matter what you do.

He's poking fun because gas mileage threads have been beaten to death.

Short version: Put your truck back to stock for best MPG. Don't idle long, don't vary speed a bunch, don't go over 65 MPH, don't tow anything. Otherwise, MPG will be terrible.

I wish! I do have a 3/1 leveling kit but just stock tires for now. I may go to a +3 shackle and remove the 1 inch spacer to give a little more rake back as it’s only about 1/8 inch of rake back to front.

Yeah I figured, not offended at all.
I’m not complaining. I was just wondering what others were getting more recently. I knew what I was signing up for when I bought the truck and I’m planning on adding slightly bigger tires which will probably be the last thing that will hurt the gas mileage.

It really seems to be a majorly individual thing for each truck and driver. I don't know how, but I'm super luck on MPG. I've hand calculated and confirmed that my computers rough average of about 15 overall is accurate. I generally leave a bit earlier and drive a little slower, but I've got a level kit, +2 shackles, aftermarket steal skids and sliders, and heavy tires on wheels that poke out a bit, and somehow the MPG gods have not punished me for it. There are others that get worse mileage with nothing but heavier tires. Total crapshoot as to what you get, but on it's best day a Tundra pulling 18 MPG is pretty high, 15 is more normal, and modded ones are in the 11-13 range most of the time.

No mods to really improve MPGs, though.

Good call. Next tank that’s what I’ll do to see how accurate it is. I’ve hardly ever gotten to double digits in mpg

I have the 6" lift and 35's. How can this be 500mi / 9.6 = 52 gallons. I must have the super tank.

If you recently had your battery disconnected it wipes the computer memory and the default DTE stat is a ridiculously optimistic 600 miles. Get a few tanks through it and it will be more accurate, but only if you have recalibrated your speedo for the larger tires. Otherwise it will actually read low on your MPGs.

That's true, but people lampoon the MPG threads because all the answers already exist on the forum. If you search "MPG" or "38 gallon tank" and restrict it to thread titles you'll get all the same answers.

That’s the one thing I didn’t know when buying the tundra. There seems to definitely some variety in things like stock ride height and mpg even within the same model

Yeah, each individual truck is it's own animal. Tire fitment threads are similar. You'll have to Tundras with the same size tires and offsets on the wheels and one guy has to trim, shape, or remove mud flaps and the other is totally fine without touching it. It's kinda like the rifle saying, but with Tundras.

    Substitute Tundra for Rifle...

I'm averaging around 17 on my current tank. I drove it like 10 miles after fill up and coasted as much as possible to get to around 18.3 until I had to stop for a couple minutes then climb a a couple small hills. I am sure it will be back down around 13 before the week is out. o_O

You'll be evaluated on your definition of long.

No pain caused, we are just ribbing you.

I get shit mileage in stop and go traffic but average about 14.5MPG or lower if I'm doing mixed driving at 80MPH. On longer trips I trend towards 17 if I keep it 65 or below.

I don't do much driving more than 5 miles north of the coast, and this is what I'm pulling down in daily (winter time) locomotion type trips. Now that I'm retired, I don't need to get anywhere fast, and enjoy just tossing all the windows down and soaking in the sound of my amazing machine.

    Screenshot_20220227-195531_Gallery.jpg

I'll pull right at 16 on the interstate. The extra money for gas is well worth the piece of mind that comes with a product like this, I'll never complain.

I have an '07 and I supposedly get 16 mpg (highway) with a 26 gallon tank. That should get me to 416 miles, but I (just about) ran out of fuel after 290 miles. Why the hell would it be so off?

Time to go back to the logbook and see what you come up with. I looked through my owners manual today so I can reset this calculation, Finally gave up. The numbers just don't add up.
