I have always gone to Crutchfield for all my audio needs. But when I did a live chat with them and then talked to my local installer I got a little confused. My installer said he would put a Type R components in the front and rear doors. However, according to Crutchfield they won’t fit. They also recommended JL C1s. Crutchfield said they will only fit in the rears. Crutchfield also only gave one Alpine head unit option? Could it be that this Crutchfield consultant and site is wrong?

Yes. Crutchfield is wrong. You can put whatever size speakers you want in the doors. Just need the proper speaker bracket.

As far as the headunit, I don’t recall seeing much available from alpine for these trucks. The one available is probably accurate. Albeit, definitely not the only option.

If you call them they will give you the other options as well as info on the different sizes. I think their online store is kinda half assed. They have pretty good cs

I don’t know why they all wouldn’t fit? As long as they are the same size as factory. It seems like the dash kit would take care of it.

All of the trucks settings and controls run through the headunit. You can’t just slap a bare bones single din headunit in the truck

Settings and controls for the audio? I would think if it’s a 7 inch screen and you replace it with a 7 inch double din radio, it would work.

Headlights, door locks, horn, lock beep, etc.

The point is, Alpine doesn’t have many double din options that are compatible with the maestro RR that is needed to retain all of the factory functions.

Yea. All of the user changeable vehicle settings are accessed through the headunit.

Better to call them on the phone.

That's why I didn't swap out my HU.

Well...not any sized speaker. The depth of the magnet will determine the speaker that you can install.

Shy of putting in an 8” sub, there is plenty of mounting depth to clear the biggest of magnets on the most powerful midrange speakers that could fit in the doors.

All you need is the proper harness and headunit and you’ll lose nothing. You’ll actually gain more functionality depending on the headunit

crutchfield just looks at stock speakers and says you need a 6x9 or what ever came stock. a bracket is needed - i just had focal 6.5 components put in my front doors and they fit and sound great. In my opinion Alpine has really lost its way and is now focusing almost exclusively on their OEM applications. i think Pioneer and kenwood make a better product for the price

Like others have said, there's lots of space and you can fit many speakers in the Tundra doors. I put Focal in mine. Some speakers may require an adapter/bracket. Or a good installer can build a bracket also.

    ^ This

Crutchfield doesn't want to recommend products that may need modification to install.

I made my own front 'adapters' out of MDF, even painted them.
They got wet and started falling apart.
If I had it to do over, I would have mounted and wired the crossovers in the truck instead of the doors.
No problems, but I think I'd rather have them mounted next to my amp under the passenger's seat.

I replaced the MDF with thick heavy plastic adapters made by the vendor not to be mentioned on this forum.
I think they sell subpar audio equipment, but they make a really nice speaker mount/adapters.
They cut the speaker hole to size according to the size of the rear of your speaker.

PM me, if anyone can't figure out who I'm talking about and wants to look into them..

For the rear, I ripped out the stock speaker and used that bracket for my Focal speakers..:D
Should have saved those OEMs and used an aftermarket adapter.

Be sure to trim the door panel if needed..
