Hope everyones turns out ok , calling tomorrow to see if appt. needed, and if they even have the parts if needed. Not going to take it in and have them tear it apart and then set and wait for parts for 6 months.

Is it my understanding that unless the vehicle was built after Aug 5, 2021 or has had steering rack work that there is a possible effect?

So essentially if no rack work was done on a vehicle older then Aug 4, 2021 technically it would not be effected?

I checked my VIN, so it appears it is a warning to those possibly effected by repair or built after.

Nope. My 2020 was on the lot in March of 2020. I thought this was just for the '21's until I received my notice today.

Look in the red box from the letter in the first post. If you haven't had rack work done since August 5th 2021, then any older trucks are NOT included. Big bold letters.

Nope. The original comment you replied to is correct, it’s in the letter, they blanket sent this notice to everyone to net not only the 2021 built after august, but anyone who may of had a tundra that got rack work done during those same months. So yours being a 2020 doesn’t matter as if your rack had an issue and needed to be replaced and it got one that was made 2021 august+ then you would have potential is what they are saying.

the recall is all based on a cutting tool that they found went out of spec by a said date, and a collar of sorts for the rack may of been cut out of spec causing the failure, so although the vehicle may have a rack made during those months of production (new vehicle, or a oem replacement rack) it still comes down to if it’s out of spec or not.

I called the dealer. She looked my truck up and pretty much said I do not need to bring the truck in, but if I noticed oil or sounds to have it looked at. Alrighty then… lol

Called my dealer today , said I need to wait for 2nd notice before scheduling anything, I didn't realize there is a 2nd one to verify the need. Also said, if I need to come in , won't schedule me until parts are available.

Did you have steering rack work done in 2021? If not, then you don't have one of the 151 replacement parts that could have the defect. Toyota is just being cautious issuing these. It's a really small batch of parts.

The way I read it, I got my 21 in December of 20. Had no work done on it in that area.
No leaking or noise, I'm good and can ignore.

What was the build date? If later than October you should be fine. Mine was smack in the middle of the window but I was one of the 75%ers with a rack built on the three good machines.

You will, but it'll be just like the others. Unless you have had power steering replacement parts since August 5th 2021 you don't have one of the defective parts.
