Air intake and throttle body spacer?

Hello again everyone!
After the warm welcome, I will continue with my first question.

Been reading many build threads, and talking to some folks that I know from work...
In the threads, I see a lot of folks using a replacement drop-in air filter rather than installing some kind of cold air intake kit - unless I am totally not understanding something.

Is that accurate?
I had actually considered buying and installing

this one as my first real mod... but I certainly don't want to waste money on something that could be done better for cheaper. Also, I was planning to pair it with

$124 Airaid 510-621 PowerAid Throttle Body Spacer

this throttle body spacer.

Open to all opinions and advice.

Ditto ^^^^. I'm not big on aftermarket CAI's but a throttle body spacer is a total waste of $. IMHO.

 

Hmm, ok. So, I know I am wanting to do something to the exhaust - I think primarily for the sound; not sure how far into that hole to climb, and I know it can be expensive. However, I'd also like to get my truck to be a bit more responsive on the low end - and it seems like those two goals might clash a little.

 

Don't get an exhaust system for just the sound. I went with a local guy (Exhaust Pro's) and got a FlowMaster dual setup which sounds great and no loss of low end torque. I wanted to go with local small business and one that is highly regarded. That being said..my second choice, "and I hate using second choice" would be @dirtydeeds.

I have to say - I just got finished reading this thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/bamuffler-installed-quick-review-with-pics-video.13069/
and I am nothing but impressed with your product.

My issue now is going to be choosing which one and funding it. That Standard 8" sounded AMAZING; but then I listened to the Standard Budget - and it was ALSO amazing.
I think that is going to be my choice; since price is going to be a major consideration. That said, I'm not too far off from having the funds.

Everyone seems to say that install is easy; I take it to mean that this is all bolt on?

 

Ok, so this is where my lack of real vehicle knowledge will come into play. I ultimately want to make the truck more enjoyable to drive; for me that will mean a bit more low end throttle response, well any power increase would be excellent; but yes, the sound will be enjoyable to me too. I know the logic may seem silly - but I want it to SOUND like a truck too; without losing any of the practical applications.

 

Nothing silly with your logic at all Josh. You seem to know what you want. The BAM's are highly regarded here and most importantly.. Keith. Give him a call. Work something out.

Thanks dirtydeeds, that install looked simple enough that I should indeed be able to do it.
I'm going to keep saving a bit and go for the standard 8" (after reading and watching the videos on your site).
I guess my last question is this... aluminized steel vs. stainless steel ?

 

Get the aluminium one if you get no snow in the area.

 

^exactly. Only reason we started making stainless is for guys whom live where it snows. If no snow then no need for stainless.

 

I went with stainless because that's what it is factory.
