I've seen some of the videos where users are having issues getting the infotainment system to recognize their phone.

For someone who hates having to create new logins and accounts is there anyway to use the infotainment system purely as a Apple Carplay pass through via a wired connection?

In other words, can I, or anyone else, get in, connect a phone via USB, power up the truck and simply use Spotify, Apple Maps/Google Maps/Waze or does the headunit require you to create an account for each user?

If a separate account is needed for each user it might sway me towards the 8" display with an eye towards ripping it out and replacing it with an aftermarket head unit.

    Thanks

    from my understanding, you can
    1. use the usb connector to the right of the infotainment as a direct plug
    2.connect via bluetooth
    3. connect via key fob

2 requires you to connect your phone with the infotainment. 3 requires you to connect to infotainment via setup. 1 might be the one you are wanting but I would think the car would keep asking you to acknowledge that you are a guest driver each time you turn it on, which would annoy me. hope this helps

Thank you. This is helpful. I have no desire to pay for a subscription service for navigation, sirius xm, etc. and wanted to make sure there were ways to get around having to subscribe via the infotainment system.

I still dont get the subscription service for navigation. I had to read through the manual to understand it. even now when I click subscribe and it sends me a link it just goes to the Toyota app on my phone and nothing else. maybe the service isn't online yet, but even my salesman told me to just use the navi on your phone and it's free. why pay? :der:

once you link a key fob to your account you shouldn’t have any issues but you can directly plug into the truck yes. Then select that phone when Selecting the source. If it doesn’t connect automatically

You don’t need an account to use wireless carplay/android auto.
