Front Differential CV Seal Leak Question on Repair

    Hey Tundra folk. I bought my 2016 with 98,000 miles on it in August 2020. in October 2020 my passenger front cv seal was leaking. Paid dealer to fix. Not cheap either.
    Now, my driver side is leaking. I have 116,000 miles on it, and need to fix it. Wondering if I should:
    1. Replace seal
    2. Replace axle and seal
    3. Replace bearing and (either of the above) with ECGS bushing in preparation for a 2" suspension lift from new Eibach coilovers.
    4. anything else like new boots?

    Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

    As long as you've got the tools you can do it yourself. I suggest:
    1. Replace seals (one on the axle side and one on the inner spindle)
    2. Don't replace the (CV) axle unless it's making noises or is damaged.
    3. Since you're in there do replace with the ECGS bushing. You can also order the tools from ECGS that will help you mount the seal onto the axle.

    EDIT: Might as well replace the upper ball joint and replace brake pads.

    I had put a small hole in one of my boots when i did my gear install, replaced the boot without any problems. About $15 for boot. Complete CVs are around $75 and up and are not hard to change out if you have the tools. 20200310_173038.jpg

    Just be aware that aftermarket CV axles suck, which is why they're relatively cheap. Rebuilding the original or buying an OEM from the junkyard is the best way to go.

    That is very correct, would have slept better having installed oem boots. As i remember i think i used one of the original clamps instead of the new flimsy ones.

    I’d be taking a good look at the diff breather to make sure it’s not plugged or the hose kinked, pinched, etc.

    100% on the ECGS bushing when you’re there.

    there is just a spinner top on the front diff and it is moving freely.
    Is the removal tool or install tool necessary for removal of the old bearing and installing the race?
