I agree. When you buy a V8, you shouldn't worry about mpg. Otherwise buy an electric or a lawnmower engine car.

    speaking of mpg ... lol
my friend has a 3000lbs boat and says his mpg is not affected by much when towing!!

wonder if there a point where the towing weight start to heavily impact the mpg. It may not be a linear impact. Once you go over 6000 lbs or so, there maybe a more significant impact but under 3000 lbs maybe the engine doesn't notice it as much like a fly on a horse ...

Any studies about mpg linearity or not?

Once rolling it's the lack of aerodynamics that turns gasoline into that sweet exhaust note of the 5.7...Until you get to a hill.

I would rely on tongue weight and payload capacity before WB .

I think those two factors were a given. If you don't exceed those, check the safe length using that over simplified formula.

I'm starting to see a pattern in TV MPG and TT size. The smaller trucks such as the Ranger and Canyon can do pretty well MPG wise while in soccer mom mode. Attach a 4,000 pound and up travel trailer and you are working the truck too hard and your efficiency suffers greatly. Even a new F150 with the 10 sp slushbox and turbo pulling a R Pod 189 can't match my Tundra pulling a larger, 1,500# heavier trailer.
I do appreciate this is hardly a scientific study since driving styles differ but from what I am seeing so far the 5.7 V8 likes to be worked. The smaller displacement engines just aren't happy when asked to develop power

GM and Ford came to the realization that, as far as gas engines go, you can't beat a medium to large pushrod V8 for efficiency when working hard.

My Dad's last used Class C purchase had the Ford 460. Salesman told him it was a 351. Dad knew better and told the dealer he wanted a 460 and to make the sale they lowered the price a grand. Dad was a happy camper. Stupid salesman didn't have a clue what just happened.
