Reduced Power - Warning (ugh)

Was driving back from the mountain bike park with my son, on the freeway, and this warning light came on…taking it in tomorrow AM…anyone else get this one yet?

 

Could be the turbo wastegate issue?

You’re far from the first one to see this message, and it seems most of them are due to defects with the turbocharger waste gate controller.

If it’s a bad part Toyota seems to not be fixing them quickly due to parts backlog. So expect to be driving something else for a few weeks to a month.

How many more of these do we need before Toyota officially admits there is a problem?

 

…I’ve had it for less than a month…it’s such a great truck. I am bummed if that is the issue.

 

Keep us informed I have 510 miles on mine, absolutely think the truck is over the top great! Hope it's an easy fix!

Dropped it off at the dealer this morning. They apparently are doing a call with Toyota tomorrow to discuss. When I drove it to the dealer, the warning wasn’t there…

anyway, I will update as I learn more

 

Did they give you a loaner and a timeframe?

 

Yes, they gave me a loaner. Tried to give me a Prius, but convinced them to give me a 4Runner.

Supposed to hear something today...nothing yet. Will call in about an hour and report back. Because of the Toyota App...I know they've been in and out of it today.

 

R2, if you don't mind me asking, did you have to pay any ADM and or add-ons?

No on ADM, but I pre-ordered (put deposit down) back in like September or October. I didn't pay add-ons (maybe define what you mean by add-ons @OnThaLake)...I added things I wanted. I worked with the dealer who was able to work with other dealers (from what I understand) to get me the truck I wanted...which was a 1794 6.5' w/ TRD OR. I was open to Black, Brown or Green in color. And they found it...honest really good dealer to work with.

 

Update is not great, but what I expected based on reading about issues other are having. It is the turbo unit which needs to be replace. The parts are on backorder and they are working with Toyota to get an ETA by Monday. Until then...I am in a loaner.

Any advice on what to do?

 

Call em everyday… Stay on their ass!! Don’t be afraid of being a dick cause you paid alot of your hard earned $$$ for that beauty!

 

I think everyone who has this issue should formally request that Toyota extend their warranty. I think it's fair. If this is just a minor issue, and the truck actually will be reliable, I think it's an easy way for Toyota to improve the image. However, it's gotta be everyone requesting a longer warranty, otherwise they'll blow you off.

I also think for those who paid ADM, and had turbo failure, Toyota should force the dealership to return the ADM.

they had the nerve to tell me “no pets” in the loaner. They also tried to give me a Prius…they quickly realized that was a bad idea. So 4Runner … but still.

I was like…this truck you sold me has 600 miles on it and you need it for weeks?!
