What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I do the same thing, especially in winter when im not camping as often, but I enjoy my one drive a week just to keep oil flowing and the battery charged. Every time I hop in the drivers seat I miss it, but then I remember how annoying southern California weekday commutes are and im glad to have my zippy little car.

 

It's so strange having brakes that work right? I had a red light sneak up on me yesterday and I went from 60 to stop so much faster than my truck could do.

To not be off topic too much, my bed has been empty this week. So much room for activities. I helped with a wedding on Wednesday and I'm helping a neighbor move this weekend.

I'm gonna order some monstaliner and keep an eye on the calendar. I'll need to remove the tie downs, the bottle opener, the spare carrier, the d rings, and probably lift the bed bolts. I figure the overall prep work can be done on a Friday night, coating done on a Saturday, drink beer and say "looks good" on a Sunday, bolt all the crap down the week after.


But first, my wife promised me no plans for the upcoming 3 day weekend. I told her I'm putting my stereo together that weekend. 5 channel amp, new wires to the doors, new components everywhere. It's going down, no more day dreaming. If I can get that stuff done on the 19th I'm also building a stealthy sub box on the 20th.

 

I made sure it has clearance to open a 24oz too.

They usually can be swapped with the tie down loops but then I'd be 12oz only. Besides I use those loops too often to lose one.

Shocking is the word I would use. First drive in the car after the DV trip, locked up all tires. The truck really needs rear discs.

 

I’m not normal. I paid $500 for the corolla, ~1500 to fix everything. So 2k for a 2009 with some miles but good all round.
My Avalon was 6500 in 2016. It’s needed nothing but 1 set of brakes and one set of tires. The truck was purchased after it just because It fell in my lap cheap too.. and serves a purpose

 

I feel conflicted about it. I haven't touched either truck in at least a week. The V6 has been longer since it's been back in pop's "loving" hands.

Zipping around in the virus is fun though.

Got O2 sensors done today since they called off work till Monday. The nuts on one side put up a fight. On my Tacoma the nuts on the downstream sensor completely rusted away until the sensor blew itself out of the hole. Not quite this bad here.
Thought this job would be absolute hell but the front 2 sensors popped loose real easy with the o2 sensor socket set I rented from O'Reilly. Did this to clear up the 3 O2 sensor heater codes I've had since I bought the truck.


Also got the mudflaps from @shifty` mounted. Look way better then my factory ones that had been a dog chew toy at some point.


Saw these tow hooks at home depot the other day and figured they looked like they should match up with the factory holes after hearing it was a pretty common size and then I could have two tow hooks up front as opposed to the single one on the passenger side. It comes with pretty long bolts but they aren't the right thread even though they appear metric. Factory bolts appear to be a fine thread just have to figure out the thread pitch and get longer bolts but otherwise match up fine.

When I pulled my factory mount off it realized that these were put on prior to the E-coating at the frame plant and there is just bare metal undernieth them so going to pull both sides and paint. @Tundra2 you're the only one that I know of lately that's had the frame done. Might want to take a gander at yours.

Just was in a gettin stuff done mood and figured this was probably the best time to nock some stuff out.

FYI, that white stuff is leftover Meguair's Perfect Polish (or whatever) from when I polished out the truck. This video will help get rid of it, good example on a Toyota

I used Adam's Polishes Graphene Pro headlight restoration kit. I'm not too knowledgeable on the differences between the Cerakote vs Graphene kits. I will say its the easiest headlight restoration kit I've ever used. Time will tell how it holds up though but the results are great so far.

I've got some feel I don't care for. I added duro bumps to the fronts (lower arms) recently, I'm pretty sure that's too much stop/travel limit.
Everything else gets either greased or torqued tomorrow, or checked for slop. I'm not sure what I'm looking for, but I'll know when I find it.

 

Still my favorite mod on this truck. Need to do this to the rest of my vehicles.

 

Looks good. Makes me want to do mine. Can you describe the steps you went through? I have used other products requiring sand paper, hand or power tolls to buff. and was not satisfied with the results.

You guys cross rotate tires? I usually go front/back same side. I have ko2 with 30k+ on them. Just saw one looked low and has a nail in tread. So I'll get that fixed tomorrow. Also noticed a little uneven wear on the outsides of all 4. So thinking a cross rotate might be good. I'm due for a rotation anyways. They are bidirectional tires, so shouldn't cause a problem, right?

 

I was thinking about trying to knock out a mod before I leave for the horse haul but I also neglected to bring tools and supplies b/c I left in a hurry. I might still do 20 minutes worth of shell wiring cleanup though, that might be a little bit worthwhile.

 

Not a problem at all. I rotate 5 and they switch sides every rotation.
