Is an AUTO LSD button a common option?

Like the title says, is an AUTO LSD button a common option on our trucks? The reason I ask is because my digital clock is messed up and I found a really nice center panel out of an 06 Tundra with a functional clock, but it doesn't have this button.

I've looked at several of these panels and none of them have this shiny button. Is this a unicorn or am I missing something?

That is not common as far as I know. This is the first one I have seen personally. To my knowledge, I thought that the 1st gens only had mechanical LSD rear ends, and starting in 2nd gen they switched over to the electronic LSD.

Technically yes it’s a unicorn, but a unicorn on a farm of leg less horses. I’d rather have a mechanical LSD than electronic LSD

I wonder if that auto LSD goes hand in hand with that expensive master cylinder some 05-06 Tundras had? It was part of that traction control package I think.

It looks crazy. I've only seen one or two members that have it. I remember @speedtre said that from his research he thought around 20% of Tundras had it in those years.

From what I understand, this is part of a hydraulic pump that provides pressure, rather than the booster that provides vaccum.

 

I had a 1990 xj with ABS and it had a booster that was very similar to this,

So, story here. When Roman at Cool Springs was helping me get woodgrain dash for my truck, the part we selected was for trucks with "VSC button". So we had to send it back and get another one for straight 4WD. Neither of us knew wtf we were looking at.

Your truck is a unicorn. A lot of people hate the trucks with the VSC button because of the expense of fixing stuff when it breaks. I hope nothing ever goes wrong, but ... It's still a 1GT so I love it. But yeah.

Apparently I've got a unicorn too but, I've only ever found it to be useless in function. As far as my experience goes, it's not a traction device/system, it's a power killing system. An actual limited slip will maintain power to the wheel with no traction and apply power to the wheel with traction. The "Auto LSD" kills power to the wheel without traction and applies the same killed power to the wheel with traction. I've got a little incline up to my house and the Auto LSD has only ever killed my momentum and stopped the forward progress I had; it's never been helpful. This "Auto LSD" has a backwards work of function. It kills power, as opposed to applying it where it's needed.

 

Our Rav4 has a similar button and as I understand it, it's only helpful if you are stuck. @Baller like you said, it will apply power to tires not spinning. I've never had to use it in the Rav4 but I would be curious to see how it works.

 

It must apply brake pressure to each wheel individually, as needed?

 

If you are asking me, that's how I understand it with the Rav4. It's a mechanical limited slip that applies braking power to the wheel that's spinning. It does it often in the rain when I'm starting from a stop and one tire starts to spin. On the Rav4 forum someone said it is only really helpful if stuck. There is a button near the cup holder I can push.

 

Used the auto LSD function today in my 2019 in the snow. At low speed with low traction it does get both wheels spinning instead of one. It did not get me up a slick incline. 4HI did the trick with ease. Definitely not the same result as a true locker. Can't give it the beans and get both wheels slinging to move you along, but in low traction low speed (off-camber terrain and crawling) it could work.
