Trying to build out a limited here. The configurator seems pretty simple and idiot proof except I can't add two options at once. Check one new box, the last one gets un checked. In a few instances I know it's because another package includes options in the previous ones because it says it. Other times it doesn't say that clearly at all.

For instance, hit "JBL" package, then scroll over and hit "Panoramic moonroof." No indication "panoramic moonroof" includes JBL but once I click on the moonroof, "JBL" package is un selected. OR "Limited power package" goes away when I click the next thing after it.

OR should I assume as I scroll to the right each package choice builds on the one to the left of it? Seems like everybody is having to special order right now, don't want to wait 3 months for a truck that turns out not to have all I want.

The configurator is an okay way to check available options and builds, but I’d use the brochure for your area.

    https://www.toyota.com/content/dam/toyota/brochures/pdf/2022/tundra_ebrochure.pdf

Then it’s a matter of finding a dealer that has what you want. No custom ordering.

At least you get a JBL package option! Canada does not. As mentioned, no custom ordering. AS the saying goes..."You get what you get and you don't get upset"!

Yeah I understand the Toyota system, but what with everybody charging sticker I figured the online build was a way to compare it to other comparably equipped half tons I’m looking at. A couple of salesmen just told me after the test drive to go home and build online and email them the link. I guess I’ll have to talk to a salesman in depth for the Tundra.

Sometimes when you try to add a package it adds a different or lesser one depending on vehicle color. I get a pop up that is sometimes off screen to change the color and if you don't click that I have this issue.

According to the Toyota Canada website, the Platinum comes with the 12 Speaker JBL Audio System. You also have to get the Platinum if you want the power extendable/folding towing mirrors.

Herein the States is looks like Platinum or higher to get the rain sensing wipers. I know, that's another first world problem.

If times are ever sane again looks like I should be able to get into a LTD non hybrid 4x4 shortbed with panoramic moonroof for 57 and change. That is at least what I get if I just hit the moonroof option with my color and don’t cause the numbers to gyrate checking other boxes that muck the whole thing up. We have bought two vehicles off our local Toyota chain so I may try to work a deal for 57 OTD in another couple months and see how loud they laugh in my face.

I was at one of their dealerships and saw a 4k markup on a optioned out SR5 Crewmax that put it in the 60s but they’re not getting the sale if they make me pay over MSRP as a 2 time customer. I’ll hold my 09 if I have to.

Check the build link in my signature.
Toyota doesn’t “a la carte” their builds. Certain options or configurations are ONLY available in specific combinations or specific trims. In a Ford, you can start with an XLT and basically option it all the way to a Limited (not exactly, but close). With Toyota, there are things that you simply can’t ever get on a truck at a certain trim or with certain other combinations. Not every feature from lower packages is included in the higher packages, and certain packages eliminate the availability of other options in their system.

When you do “order” you’re not placing an order for a one-off truck. You’re then looking for an allocation of a truck that was going to be built with that combination and getting it routed to your dealer when it comes up in the queue. It is part of Toyota’s LEAN manufacturing process that they made famous.

Want a platinum with crawl control - nope.
Want a Limited TRD off road but no chrome handle bar mustache - nope.
Really like Wind Chill but want the off road package - nope.

There are also discrepancies in their system - options that actually exist or features in certain packages but are not listed in the documents (for instance, many SR5 trims in 2020/2021 came with auto dual climate control, despite it being listed as not available, or the TRD Pro listed to have a urethane steering wheel in 19-21 despite having a leather one).

Regional distribution also has different options and packages - SE Toyota seems to get lots of special treatment there.

Yep, 2 time Toyota owner here with a buddy who just bought a 4runner and a family that has been buying Toyotas since I was a Kid. I have actually never special ordered a vehicle and hate the process but have resigned myself to it this time.

I was configuring to get an apples to apples MSRP comparison with the other similarly equipped half tons I’m looking at to see where the most bang for the buck was. Got a better price off the Toyota site with no glitches by simply checking on the panoramic moonroof option leaving out all other packages for The 4x4 LTD non hybrid short bed which puts it as close to what I want as I can get.

Now I know exactly how to quickly articulate what I want my dealer to look for and the MSRP that should come with it.

Me too, man. Phone in one hand, remote in the other. Can’t believe the Bengals pulled it out.

Let the games begin, sent in response to my dealer’s 68k quote for a LTD Crewmax.

Thank you for your time, but I think it may not be the right time for me to buy. I have priced a 4x4 LTD Crewmax with just the panoramic sunroof added on in the configurator in I believe supersonic red at 57k before tax. My timeline is April/May. But I am glad to have received a quote now to help me understand the current market.

As a 2 time ———- customer my household bought a Camry from your one location and my Tundra from your other, and I have a 10 year-plus service history on my Crewmax at ———— Toyota. I was not interested in paying a markup and about 58k was my OTD ceiling, with approximately 15 down plus my trade. Also only need a few key accessories factory or dealer installed. This goal does not seem reasonable at current market conditions but I would be happy to maintain a dialogue into the spring to see where the market is at that point. Hopefully it is somewhat changed, otherwise I may hold off. Out of respect for your time and to maintain the positive long running relationship I have with _____ Toyota I would rather not waste your time coming in to negotiate if you have eager customers at these prices.

I am aware of the Toyota order system and understand that it could take weeks or months after I pull the trigger to get a truck.

I look forward to talking again in a few months.
