Hey guys so I’m relocating from NH to South Florida and was wondering if there is a big threat against cats being stolen. In NH I’ve never been worried. Most of the threads I’ve read it seems to be mostly TX and other western states.

My new home will be in a gated community but if its a threat I rather spend the $300ish now then deal with insurance later.

    Thanks

We've had a bunch stolen here in CT, and not always in the urban areas. I think it's becoming a problem everywhere.....

A co-worker told me that our Tundra Cats are worth $1500 at the scrap.:eek2:

His Tundra got hit, so he got an aftermarket cause a Toyota OEM was a 3-4 month wait plus added a flowmaster and the next day got hit again while grocery shopping.

Just weld some sawzall blades or a bandsaw blade cut into pieces to the pipes at one end of the cats. Sawzall won't cut similar hardness. Then you still have access to monitor and service the truck.

I guess scumbags really do live everywhere.
I’d be livid. I guess I’ll just go ahead and order some. Time to do some more research about best bang for my buck.

If anyone has any recommendations let me know. Not looking forward to this $300+ purchase.

    Get the Valhalla shield.

I park in an area with very brazen scrappers who have hit a Tundra and several other vehicles. One just last week.

I put the kit on mine several months ago. After watching video of how they do their dirty work, there is very little chance they would take the risk of trying to get past the shield.

It takes less than 11 minutes.

Then you have to pay for and wait for parts, start a claim, report to LE, etc…

I say just go with the plates.

Areas of the state have been hit. I would just order the front and rear plate from @Classy63 and be done with it. Tyler will get you taken care of. It is money well spent, especially when parts from Toyota are over $6K.

Yea I’m definitely going to order one.
Do you have to get the front and rear or just the fronts? I’m seeing this could get very expensive.
I’ll be on the East coast. In between Ft Lauderdale and Miami.
I’m still doing research of which shields I like the best. So much to digest.
I’ll reach out thanks for the info!

Valhalla is the only one that makes a rear plate. I recommend steel as well, plus it's cheaper than aluminum.

@Classy63 makes the Valhalla plates. His product is excellent. If you have a factory front plate, leave it alone. There is a middle and rear plate you’ll need that install just aft of the front plate. If you don’t already have a front plate, he makes one of those as well.

This is a buy-once cry-once kinda deal. I believe I paid around $600 for mine, plus more for tamper resistant hardware.

But that’s a TENTH of the cost of having to replace the cats. Plus, you’ll have to wait for parts and installation. I’ll grab the link for the whole Valhalla thread and you can read up and decide. Good luck!

I planned on the steel. I like cheaper lol. Going to be ordering in the next couple days. Finishing packing up our house at the moment.
I don’t have a front plate. I’ll probably order that down the road. My banker (wife) was easier to convince about the middle and rear.
Thanks for sending the link over. I’ve been already reading up on it.

Hope it is useful for you. Just be aware that Tyler has changed some of the bolt sizes and may have eliminated the need for spacers since my install.
