Who actually uses the 3rd row willingly? Even full size Suburbans and Expeditions have miserable 3rd row seating. I’ve spent plenty of time in the back of them being driven around by transportation contractors, and the 3rd row sucks. Fold those seats down and pretend they don’t exist.

I have used them and my family as well. Granted we are not giants (all under 6ft) we were pretty comfortable. The 2nd gen Sequoia has IRS so that helped with 3rd row room compared to competitors at the time. One of the reasons I choose a full size Toyota SUV was the need to transport the whole family around and still be comfortable.

You clearly don’t have children. We use our 3rd row on a daily basis.
3 boys all their friends and their Crap. Third row and actual storage is a must which is why we have the Suburban.
We generally take a month long vacation in the summer so the entire rear (3rd row up) of the Suburban is full as is the rooftop cargo carrier

This system is great. My 2000 Silverado has it, my 2003 Explorer had it, my 2016 Expedition had it, our 2015 Suburban had it, and my 2020 Company Tahoe has it.

Makes wet and light snow driving a breeze.

I love my Tundra but the only downfalls it has are the lack of an auto 4wd selection and no true LSD.

The '22 Tundra starts WAY below $50k but good luck finding one at $50k! All of these will be marked up to near six figures when they hit dealerships. Just wait and see.

What's with Toyota giving people NO choice? I hate the way they manufacture and the way they're now forcing powertrains upon people too. That's one major advantage of domestic brands. You can configure those anyway you want.

When our kids were little we got the wife a 3-row SUV. The third row ended almost never being used. It was too much of a PITA to get kids in/out of there. And, if something came up during the trip you can't reach them. And by the time they're older they get big enough to not want to sit back there anymore. It's not really functional IMO. I'd be willing to bet that 90% of people who buy 3-row SUVs never use that back row.

Kids, out of arm's reach. When I was little, we had a 68 Pontiac Catalina station wagon. I rode all the way in the back to avoid the arms.

Just built an AT4 Yukon. Loaded up with just about every option came to $80,114.

Seats fall flat, V8, tow hooks. Probably worse MPG, and 800lbs less towing capacity.

Will be interesting to see the Sequoia pricing.

My biggest hang up with the Sequoia is that I am buying an SUV of that size and still having difficulty loading up my groceries from a big COSTCO run. It's a major oversight by Toyota in my opinion.

One thing that sticks out that kind of would bother me is how the tunnel runs all the way to the 3rd row. My Traverse, yukon, and Tahoe didn't have it all. Flat floor throughout. Kind of takes away from the premium image imo, looks kinda bad.

I never buy the first year of anything … My buddy just picked up a 2022 sequoia , I like over any GM products are junk , GM just lost there main part vendor , I had 2019 Denali and got tired of all the stupid stuff breaking … Junk
My LC 200 is not as big as the suburban , will out live any GM product buy over 20 years .
Not sold on any of the Toyota up coming charges , if past changes like the 4.0 to 3.5 the new LC 300 and sequoia , even the new tundra .
I was just up at my local Toyota dealer picking up a 2022 4runner TRD pro and they were trying hard to get my 2016 Tundra , I never buy the first year of anything .
I was considering a 2021 tundra but they did not have any left , how ever I did find a few other dealers with old stock … I still thinking about , the 3.5 is not for me .

The regular 3.5 Ecoboost is not rated on 91 from the factory. The 3.5 HO in the Raptor, F150 Limited, and Lincoln Navigator is. And the 400 hp version in the Expedition Platinum is.

Everything I have seen says the 3.5 Ecoboost puts down the same power to the wheels on 87 octane as the 3.5 iForce does on 93. Multiple dynos across multiple tuners put the current 3.5 Ecoboost at ~320 whp on 87 and ~350 whp on 93. The Raptor on 93 does ~370 whp.

Also, an otherwise stock 2017+ 3.5L Ecoboost can make 450 rwhp with a tune, so around 100 whp gain over a stock truck on 93. The turbos on the 2018+ motors are quite large and the 2017's were decent sized. The regular 3.5 shares the compressor wheel with the Raptors, although in 2019 the Raptors got a lighter weight turbine. The 3.0 in the Explorer ST and Aviator has similar sized turbos to the 3.5 and are putting down well into the 400's whp. The 11-16 3.5 turbos and the 2.7L turbos are smaller and do run out of steam up top, but still enough for close to 400 whp.

I don't know if this is true. The supercharged 5.7's with headers, throttle body and custom tuning seem to not be able to get much more than high 400's whp. So basically, you gotta spend >$10000 to make a 5.7L produce the same power as a 3.5L Ecoboost with a $500 tune.

The tuning potential on the iForce is going to come down to how large the turbos are. The original 3.5 Ecoboosts came with 36mm compressors, which are small, and could only make 380-400 whp depending on mods. The 2017's got an upgrade to ~39mm compressors and can make 450 whp. The 2018's got even larger with a 41mm compressor and can push up closer to 500 whp. Basically, starting in 2017, all 3.5 Ecoboosts ran the same turbos as what is in the Raptor.

If Toyota put a tiny little 36mm compressor on these engines then don't expect much in the way of gains. If Toyota put some 41+mm compressor on them, I would expect they may be able to produce 450-500 whp tune only, not including whatever the hybrid contributes. So possibly 525 whp with the electric motor helping.

I was comparing the supercharged 5.7 to the hybrid 3.5 TTV6 in the new Tundra/Sequoia.
I would go the Expedition route because it’s possible to make good power with E85 and a tune.

I have a friend who is a Ford certified master technician. He's got 20+ years on the job. He's also a big Ford fan and races Mustangs competitively on the weekends.

A couple years ago he bought a new truck. He went with the Coyote V8 over either of the EcoBust options. At a little league baseball game for our sons I struck up a convo with him one day and asked why he didn't get one of the turbo engines.

His reply: "I work on those all day every day. I will never own one."

Toyota used to understand this K.I.S.S. principle well, but it seems even they are slipping away.....

exactly - the 3rd row of any of these full size SUVs and vans were never meant for adults to sit in for a road trip. I do hope that they have an extended wheel base cause if they do, I know where our moneies will be going in 2025/2026 when our Expedition EL is getting up in miles. Hopefully by then they work out the initial bugs that have come up with the new engine

Check out TFLs video, that space isn't terrible once you see it in action. Not ideal, but folks got the solid rear axle back so the 3rd row had to take a hit

I know people like that too. Most of them have never driven or owned an EB and are you typical "Vee Eights belong in trucks!" kinda guy. If they ever hooked one up to a trailer they would probably shut up mighty quick when the realize how awesome it is.

There is a reason no one here in the Rockies tows travel trailers with a V8 half ton. 95% of the people I see are using an HD diesel or an Ecoboost because they work. Then there is the random GM 6.2L or completely overloaded Tundra.

On the other hand, I do know a lot of people who love their EB's and have bought more than one. There are forums filled with happy EB customers. And Ford just keeps pumping them out by the 100's of thousands a year and keep selling them no problem after 11 years.

I'd rather have the axle than a giant 3rd row. If I ever have a 3rd kid, one of them can sit back there. And if I have guests, two of them can. If I were to buy one of these it would be used for towing, offroading, daily driving, etc etc etc. The solid axle, 3.5TT, 8 seater checks a lot of boxes for me. Boxes that my GX couldn't quite check due to lack of power and size.

I've ridden in the back of my Lexus GX and it actually isnt half bad. I am 6' tall, 190 lbs, and rode back there for about 2 hours and was not uncomfortable. That is solid axle too.
