Do those spacers just drop out the bottom? I heard in another post they can get lost in the frame. Once mine comes in I will try to just loosen the plate and keep the stock hardware. If its not going good tightening things up I will go to plan B and use the nut plate. I have some extra long swiveling box end wrenches that I think I can hold those top nuts with in the stock configuration. I have a 1/4 " aluminum plate on order so I hope there is enough gap with the TRD PRO plate loosened up to slide it in.

On another note what is the purpose of that spacer to begin with on the TRD PRO plate?

Why it’s like this I don’t know but I will guess since the spacer is made of light weight aluminum it’s meant to crush some on impact and still help keep the skid tight to the crossmember.

When removing they can get lost in the frame if you don’t pull them out the top of the crossmember before removing the bolt. I pulled them out right after removing that flimsy washer and before I let the bolt drop.

Maybe the whole thing will drop if you unbutton all the front and middle bolts. I don’t know cause I didn’t want to mess with those.

A 1/8 steel plate is probably at least 20lbs lighter than the 3/16 and when you’re on you back cramped for room it probably makes a difference. I don’t plan on rock crawling much so 1/8 is probably plenty for security purposes.

When I was ready to mount the front I positioned my feet towards the front of the truck and with the plate on top of me moved it into position with feet and arms. This may help some. The front of the truck up on Rhino ramps helps too.

Nice! Sounds like you had a game plan that worked out well. I found out that a Noco group 24-31 battery box that I had laying around is the perfect height to help mount skid and cat plates. Worked better than a jack because you can balance the whole plate on it no problem. Beveled edges on the corners made it easy to maneuver it around

I just use a furniture dolly to slide the plate around under the truck and I lift it up and bolt it in. The 3/16 steel plates I think caused my shoulder injury by doing this by myself

I am for the most part caught up to mid November. When I get the aluminum order hopefully Monday, I will kill off the rest of the outstanding orders from before then and more. The steel order is being made, and it will catch me up to almost now

This popped up on Facebook, I hate how most of these plates bolt in…

Classy63, do you have the front and rear 1/8 steel ones ready to ship?

I'm wanting to place an order. I will paint them myself, so no powdercoating.

I feel for the member who ordered on Thanksgiving day, let alone the statement above "for the most part, caught up with mid November orders", Then there's December orders..that said, you're wanting to "place" a order and almost the end of January..... Miracles can happen though? Just a observation.... Good luck.

I do not have the steel order yet. I am not allowing anyone to jump in front of anyone in line. Assuming that the steel order comes in and I have enough left over to cover all my orders, you would still wait for me to ship the orders ahead of you.

No problem. Thanks for the reply. I saw your post on your Facebook page 4 days ago that you may have some in stock finally. I have to go into the most dangerous city in America (Memphis) for a bunch of appointments for 6 days in February.

Hey @Classy63 any update on a plate for the '22 trucks? I am planning to get one with the new TRD skid plate.

    Thanks!

Finally got around to placing my order (R182829698 and R245659756 for the security bolts I almost forgot).
    :spending:

I was hoping this could hold off till Spring because I am totally not interested in crawling around under my truck in <32F weather, but it’s preferable to the alternative considering a neighbor a few homes down had their cats stolen this week.

It always feels like this stuff happens far away and isn’t a concern until it happens to someone you know.

I know there’s a lead time with these orders so I picked up one of those ~$20 vibration alarms off Amazon which I’ll attach to my exhaust somewhere at night. I know alkaline batteries have trouble in low temps so hopefully Energizer Ultimate Lithium’s can power this little thing until the shield arrives.

Today I did something I have been wanting to do for over 6 months, I tested a plate on a land cruiser!! Guess what, it fits! I had to drill 2 holes so the plastic cover would bolt in, but it is a nice fit in there, my rear cat plate will not fit these, and I think it is fair to assume my front skid plate will fit.

@Classy63 - Thanks for answering a few questions for me today Tyler. Placed my order for powdercoated steel front and rear (R573025656). Now to find the Barnes bolt head protectors to make these even harder to remove. The Barnes site shows out of stock.

I need to clean it up. Can't believe I haven't found this forum before - I've been on TundraTalk and TundraSolutions for years but not very active. 2011 Crewmax TRD 2WD I bought in 2011. Other than not being 4WD it has been my favorite truck of all I have previously owned. 171K and still looks and runs great.

What sux is the reason I found this forum. I'm in the process of moving from DFW to the Tyler, TX area and spent a night in a hotel in Denton last week - all four cats were removed overnight :sawzall:  I was lucky my go-to dealer could get replacements and get them installed two days later.

Yea, Texas is getting really bad about those. I was in San Antonio a few months back (summer) and was still waiting for my cat covers, I parked in the upper level garage and backed it against two walls (think of it being on the side corner) and had my friend's minivan cover me on the other side real close, and had those spots covered by the hotel's camera system. I lived to tell the tale today but let me tell you, it was two sleepless nights alright. Two levels down, two different year TRD PROs were cut, cause the start up caused quite a few car alarms to go off (one thing about tower parking at a hotel, it is pretty enclosed in a way that an exhaust sound can travel long and far)...
Houston ain't getting any better, but be patient, Tyler is trying to catch up and his product is solid, unlike some dealership stuff that I have seen lately. Stay safe my friend.... Oh, I know you are in Tyler and that's maybe a 2.5 hour drive, but if you do come down to take the plates, have Tyler install it for you, have a chat with him, he's about the nicest guy you can find around here.

For those of you ordering both front and rear cat plates, are you ordering the pentagon bolts from Tyler or buying different ones from an outside source?

I am the lazy cat and went with Tyler's pentagon bolts. My thoughts are if they really want them, nothing is gonna stop them, even those so call security bolts.
But, I am also not against using different and more secure bolts if you do really live/work/park in a shady part of town where crime is regular dinner menu.

The purpose of the plates are to deter the thoughts of even attempting the cats, and encourage them to move on. But if one so desires it, unless you lock you truck in a FBI storage, good luck.
