Westcott Designs Lift kit

I'm thinking about installing the Westcott Design Lift kit for the TRD PRO with the Fix suspension.
Have any of your done it and what are the pros and cons you've noticed?
(Going to keep OEM wheels, for now)

If you did install what tires did you put on afterwards?

I don't know how I've missed this. Seems pretty awesome. And now I'm interested int heir sliders as well. Hopefully someone chimes in with both!

 

pro’s…nice way to level/lift truck and keep awesome factory Fox TRD suspension; no need to switch out uca or perform bmc to fit 35’s. Ride feels great.

con’s…none really; have to get an alignment, gas mileage might take slight hit with raised height/bigger tires.

Running 35x11.5R20 Nitto Ridge Grapplers on 20x9 +10 offset wheels

 

Great products and customer service. My father has their sliders on their 4 runner. I'll be order them for the tundra soon.

 

Soooo about that UCA. I know it doesn't "need" it with this kit (granted I'm also on the older Bilstein Pro kit instead of the Fox), but I've had some issues keeping my alignment in spec after off road trips, and the general consensus is that it's because the lift has maxed out the geometry of the stock UCAs. I've been able to get good numbers on alignments, but it seems that any moderate off road activity jacks it up. Just an FYI for anyone looking into this lift. I've also be very impressed with the performance of the kit itself, not degrading the ride quality or off road performance that I can tell. Minus the ability to maintain alignment specs.

 

I’ve got it just in the front (coachbuilder shackles in the back). Love them both, no complaints on my end.

 

I have the full Coachbuilder kit now…but just purchased Westcott front only kit with SPC UCAs. I will be keeping the Coachbuilder shackles in the rear. I was always happy with the shackles, but CB claims 1” lift in front with their kit…but I only measured just over .5”-.6”. So hopefully Westcott gives the full 1.5” they say!

 

Do you have the +3 shackles?
That’s what I will be keeping…but adding Alcan leaf springs to compensate for the extra weight I carry.

 

CB shackles do 1.25" with their 2" Shackles and 1.75" with their 3"

I had the kit installed and the truck looks great.

But since installing the kit I got new tires on the original wheels and now I have rubbing on the driver side.
Discount tire wouldn't mount the 35/12.5/18 KO2s I wanted because the "stock wheels were too narrow". I had to get 285/75/18 Duratracks instead, great tires, but I find they rub only on the driver's side at full lock turning right, forward and backward. I'm guessing it is the front sway bar.

I'm getting a better alignment, Toyota maintenance miles @15k, this following week to see if it will help with that rubbing issue.

Will it cause long term damage to any components with that rubbing?
Just want this truck to last like it should.

 

leave the truck in park in your driveway or flat surface and turn your wheel just near full lock, get out and go see where the tire is rubbing. My guess is at the front by the bumper end caps on the plastic liner

 

I did this with my son in the driveway and it looks like it is the front sway bar. (?) (Large bar about 1" in diameter)

I clear the bumper and body mounts but it runs only on the driver's side close on the passenger but definitely on the driver.

Will an alignment fix the issue, or at least make it better?

 

You might need to run some wheel spacers (1.25” Spidertrax or Bora), but I’m unsure if that would make the rubbing on the sway bar worse… I know it’s a divisive topic, but you can remove the sway bar without much ill effect.

I’d pursue the spacers before pulling the sway bar, and I think all you’ll see is some possible rubbing on some of the plastics that can be solved by removing the mud flaps or pushing the bumper plastics forward a bit.

It’s very possible that an alignment will solve the issue, though, especially if you’re rubbing on just one side.

 

As far as removing the sway bar, pros are more articulation while off roading, reduction in bump steer, and hopefully no more rubbing from the tires… Cons are mainly just slightly looser feeling in curves. Some will say it introduces a safety issue in cases of high speed evasive maneuvers. That can be overcome with safer driving habits and knowing the limits of your truck.

Another reason I got the Tundra is to rely on my driving skills and not a bunch of sensors/cameras telling me what might happen.

I'll get the alignment done next week most likely and I'll report back.

 

Send pics of the lift after the kit installation and the new tires as I got the Wescott kit (with shackles) as a XMas present from my kids but I’m not completely sold on the idea and I’m thinking 295/70/18 or 285/70/18 and rubbing is not an issue but maybe Goodyear Duratrac doesn’t offer those sizes? I want Nitto Recon Grapplers but they don’t offer those sizes either (yet)

 

I plan on having the westcott done in the spring. I’m staying with 285/70/18’s. That’s what I have now. Plan on doing other wheels also. Up in the air plus 18 or plus 25 offset. Also not sure if I’m doing shackle plus 3 or stay with the whole kit. Decisions!!

 

Personally I stayed with the block from the kit, but I don't tow, haul very heavy stuff so I didn't see the need for shackles, yet. I probably will go with shackles or add-a-leaf in the future if I start hauling heavier loads.

 

I’m leaning towards the blocks for the rears. I don’t tow either or off road. I just like the lifted look more with more aggressive wheels.

 

I have had the same problem. BUT, I have a limited with icon UCAs and bilstein 6112s at 2.5” lift so definitely not maxed out. Maybe not the lift specifically then?

 

Yep, it's definitely not specific to the Westcott lift, just something I wanted to bring up since they advertise it as not "needing" UCAs to maintain suspension geometry. It probably works just fine as-is if used on the street and light duty off road stuff.

 

I had the sliders installed a couple weeks ago and spoke with Jeff Westcott at length about his TRD Pro Lift kit. I have a rack and tent on the truck 24/7 (plus extra gear when hitting dirt), and they definitely recommend an add a leaf kit, or full leaf kit swap. I'll probably end up with the Icon Mini pack or Icon RXT, but that's at least a few months away. I highly recommend Westcott, their entire team is knowledgeable, friendly, and always willing to answer questions. Give them a call and talk it out.

If I already have the Firestone airbags installed in the back, then I should be okay with just adding the block in the rear right? My 2021 TRD Pro sagged way more in the rear than my 2018 TRD Offroad did when towing my boat, hence the airbags.

 

Here's some swaybar rub I had before adding Spidertrax 1.25" spacers. If you're rubbing in the same spot on stock rims the spacers should eliminate the rub for you.

 

Anyone else having front end alignment holding with the wescott front collars? Wescott says you can run ko2s in 35s without issue on stock wheels. I’d like to have the kit and 35s but don’t want any extra maintenance. I’ve been on nitto ridge grapplers for 29k trouble free miles. Any long term wescott users out there or CB? TIA

 

I've been running their collar and coachbuilder shims for 22K miles now and no issues whatsoever. They did the install and set my alignment and it's held ever since (they outsourced the alignment).
