With my seat belt buckle. :p

    20220105_115848.jpg

Anyone have a fix to get the button to pop back out or do I need to order a new buckle? (driver's side)

It still works and has no fault light under proper use.

Also, I'm not sure if the part number is 73240 or not. Diagrams on parts.toyota.com are a little confusing.

I'd try cleaning all the crumbs between the red and gray parts, maybe spray some silicone lube in there to help...then replace if it still doesn't work...Luck.

please clarify. the release button is meant to be depressed when the buckle is not in use. is that what you mean? or is the button not popping out when you plug in the buckle?

Mine used to stick bad, pretty sure it was mostly because of sugary drinks getting spilled. I'd have to stick a knife in the buckle hole and manually pop it up so I could make my seat belt click.

Eventually I sprayed some Simple Green in there, used a few q-tips, then sprayed lubricant and it's gotten a bit better.

It shouldn't be depressed when not in use. It used to pop back out like it does on the passenger seat or when it was new.

I soaked mine in hot water with dish soap, sprayed it out, and repeated the process for about 5 minutes. worked like new afterwards.

Passenger is the way it should be when not in use...I should know, I've owned this truck since new. If that's changed with a model that's a year or two older then I'm not aware of it.

Looks like you're right. I have a 03' with bucket seats so maybe different. I would try the hot water soak I mentioned. I had problems with one of mine and that fixed it.

My driver side is the same way. When I put the seatbelt in it, it pops out and latches just fine so i hadn't put much time into it yet.

Wonder if you can swap the muddle seat one to drivers seat.

I had that happen once, there was a dime stuck in there.

Seat belts??? We don't need no stinking seat belts!!!

Mine's the same way. It works fine as-is, so I haven't done anything about it. If I was to get motivated, I'd remove it, blow it out with compressed air, then dunk it in soap and water, blow it out again, and finish with a spritz of WD40. But I don't anticipate getting motivated.

I'm re-posting this video in a few different threads to spread it around. I had the worst time trying to find it a minute ago.

This video shows how to tear Toyota bucks apart and repair, swap internals, fixing broken circuit in the meantime. Props to @VR6T for finding it. Jump to roughly 4m30s to see where disassembly really begins. A lot of what comes before is referential fluff.

Only one broken tab for my seat belt according to the video and what I see. Kind of like working with only one nut. Might be ugly but it does the job.
