That's awesome that he still has it and you have a history together with it.

I looked day and night for about 2 years for the one we had. It turned out the guy selling spelled Landcruiser wrong or something, I can't remember but it didn't show up right on Craigslist (I would try multiple spellings). It was basically a barn find. I got it from the original owners grandson. When the grandfather died, he left it to him but the dude had about 5 other trucks and he decided to get rid of this one.

His grandfather only used it to hunt and when he hunted off of his north Texas ranch, he'd tow it. Because of that, it had 24,000 miles on the speedometer. Unfortunately, it didn't have any records to come with it. 1974 Factory Soft-top, no rust cancer. It had the 1.5F engine that was legendary because it was only used as a transition engine for that year. Basically a bullet proof tractor engine. He had to shoot shit into the carb to get it to start but the price was right so we bought it and brought it home.

I knew nothing about working on vehicles but learned a lot on that. The grandfather had jury rigged some kind of towing thing for his little boat and between that and the rats, the wiring harness was all dorked up. I ended up figuring out how to rewire it. Put a new carb in, new steering wheel, new horn, new gas tank (all sourced from 1974 FJ's). I sourced some half doors and even found a set of the original canvas straps that came with the factory soft tops. The first time I was able to fire it up without putting shit in it was such a huge achievement. I was honking the horn and Mrs. Bandito ran out all excited...

My dad came for a visit and we worked on it for a week - that was awesome because my parents were always working when I was growing up so I had a lot of alone time.

Anyway, we moved here, had no garage and it was starting to rust out. If I parked it somewhere, I'd never drive it and just like an old house needs to be lived in, a FJ40 needs to be driven.

I used IH8MUD at the time and put feelers out on there. I remember I was describing the original miles and some asshat said "I don't know guys, I find that hard to believe." The doctor came by, bought it, and started restoring it. I followed it for a while but one cool thing was that he had looked up the serial number or something on the spare tire and found it had to have been the original tire that came with it.

This is longer than I thought. I loved that thing. I don't regret selling it because it deserved to be restored and kept in a garage. I had fun, made a little money, and some good memories.

    My once-in-a-lifetime barn find.

What the hell? For Tucson it has been cold at night, in the mid 30s, in fact there was frost on my garbage bins this morning. Anyways, I just killed a damn mosquito, how the hell does that happen?

Not to start a conspiracy, but I'm almost 100% sure that the government is expanding the bird drone operation to mosquitos. Think about it, ever more stealthy, easier to hide because of the small size, etc.

I've read that the little bastards will go suck on citrus fruit and that keeps them from freezing. If your neighbors have citrus trees or bushes, go burn them down. I think they come back out as soon as it gets above 60.

Yeah, I thought my doc told me not to eat it. I can't remember why. Again, I'm not paying attention most of the time. I can literally look at somebody in the eyes when they are telling me something and not hear any of it because I'm thinking about how Canada gets all of the cool KitKat flavors or that mosquitos suck on citrus fruit...

We had a very wet summer monsoon and the mosquitos were horrible. I had an idea that involved at least 500 of those canned bug bomb foggers until the wife stopped me.

But I bet it would have worked.

Yeah, I've unfortunately had to take some interesting meds in the past and haven't eaten a grapefruit since then.

so, apparently, for some reason we aren’t allowed to stream any Tubi because we’re using a PlayStation. Very disappointed
