Was planning on going in a decent road trip in my 01’ 4.7L Tundra 4x4 and hopefully doing a little off-roading. However I want to change all the fluids in my truck before just because I’m not sure if they’ve been changed since ~90k miles. Anyone help out with a list of the stuff I should change out? Transmission fluid, etc.? Also other reason I’m doing this is I got a free oil change certificate to an oil stop and when I got home my rear differential was leaking fluid as the bolt wasn’t tightened. Fucking idiots. Changing my oil on my own always now.

    Anyway, thanks

At 176k miles currently as well.

Flush the brake fluid too. Flushing the power steering fluid is probably a good idea also. How many miles on this beast?

    Edit: 176,000 miles

Honestly, I’d just top off engine coolant and maybe change rear diff. And grease the drive shaft.

Changed the brake fluid about 8k miles ago so good on that. Power steering fluid I’m not sure about so good idea, that may have something to do with the occasional little squeak in the steering wheel when I turn it quick.

Great list. Coolant I changed when I replaced the radiator 8k miles ago. You know the best differential fluid? Everyone has their own thought on it.

I just use valvoline products. Others here swear by the synthetics. If you have a limited slip rear diff, you'll need the required additive.

Change out all the fluids at the age our trucks are. Trans, t case, diffs, brake, power steering, coolant

I would probably just do all the fluids, start fresh at an easily documented mileage (like 90k or 100k).

Motor oil, trans fluid, front/rear diff and trans case fluid are pretty easy.

Brake fluid can be tedious. I would use a syringe to pull as much out of the reservoir, top off with new fluid, then bleed. You may need to do a few rounds of bleeding, go drive on a dirt/gravel road and slam the brakes a few times to activate abs, then bleed once more. Don't forget to bleed the proportion valve above the rear axle.

Power steering you have a few options. You can confirm if you have steering fluid or trans fluid in there (you can use trans fluid) and do a remove and refill move to dilute what is in there. Do it a few times and you'll have newish fluid. Or do the flush technique, it can be messy and can damage your pump if done wrong.

Coolant is kind of a dump and refill. You'll never get 100% out, I suggest pre mixing in a separate container so you're dumping mixed coolant in. Doing the coolant followed by water method can mess up ratios.

Good luck and enjoy the trip.
