What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Depending on if the barns suitable to work in by the summer. I may be up for if

 

scratch that...I had the wrong radiator. Only up to 2004. The one for my 2006 is $460! Guess I'll be using Amazon or RockAuto instead.

Gives me plenty of time to clean up the rust on the driveshaft, and on the transmission/xfr case.

 

ordered the radiator from the Biggest Guurll....here's hoping it lands on my porch without damage.

Also, ordered a new Tstat and gasket just because....

 

Should I order anything else for this radiator job…is there a gasket for the tranny pipes that enter/exit the radiator?

 

NO gasket for trans hose, you could get a couple of small worm gear clamps to replace the tension stock tension ones. PHM mentions a strip or two of factory foam that helps only pull cool air in that you can get from a big box if yours are missing damaged.

 

yeah I figured I would replace the clamps too

 

Did my door seals with the 303 protectant. Also did my dash while I was at it. The gel'd Philips LEDs work well for HVAC/radio lights. Of course they changed the profile of the Philips LEDs from the ones I received today from the ones I ordered 6 months ago, but the gel still fit on. I went with the amber 74/T5 LEDs, I think this looks pretty good and matches the light of the instrument cluster pretty well and much better than the green LEDs, which look terrible. The white was OK, but this looks better.

Since you'll have the radiator out of the way, how old is your serpentine belt and accessories? Much easier to replace with the radiator out of the way.

 

Serp belt was replaced a while ago but I think I skipped the tensioner or idler pulley. So i'll do those probably....and I think I actually have them sittin on the 'parts shelf' in the garage.

 

Changed my oil the other day. Looks like the skid plate is on the way out from rust. Already chipped off the top layer exposing the inside metal underneath.

 

The tensioner is a little work but not terrible. Are you replacing the thermostat too?

They fit pretty dang big. I had to trim the bumper corners and pull the mudflaps before we even got it off the lift.
Worked out that I made the right decision to not do that shit in my driveway in the dark in the rain last night.

 

No you have to unbolt the alternator and move it out of the way to get to the tensioner. We replaced Jpinks alternator at the same time which also involved unbolting the power steering pump.

 

Do I sense timing belt activity?

 

Those look great! Now just gotta anodize all the remaining chrome to match

 

Anything chrome will go black or body color. Blue only on the wheels. Too much would be too much.

 

You may want to look at clamps designed for fuel injection hose. You can really crank em down and not cut the hose.

 

This looks really good.

Some night shots of the dash with the new LEDs. The green is still off. It may be because the underlying light is a 6000k LED vs. a 2700k halogen. The amber looks kind of cool and matches the gauges. So one more shot with warm LEDs under the green gels for grins.

 

I love the attention to detail. I still have to futz with mine and see how much they trigger my OCD. I'm almost certainly going to buy whatever it is that you end up selecting for your final version given the effort invested. So, TLDR, your work is greatly appreciated.

 

Weird, I didn't think I needed to unbolt anything but the tensioner itself...guess I'll check it out when I'm in there.

No, I checked my TB earlier this summer and it was fine. I remember seeing a sticker of 183K (I'm at 212K) when it was replaced so I'm good for a long while.

 

I don't think i need anything but new clamps so i'll probably just get some of the tension ones again.
