Hey, so I was rotating the tires on my stock 08 sr5 trd double cab, I had noticed the outer edge of the fronts wearing prematurely, I’ve neglected rotating these. As I jacked up the front and removed the drivers side wheel, I heard the distinct sound of chunky metal hitting the driveway. It appears to be the last 3” of coil spring wanted to remove itself from the majority of spring. The original 80k miles Bilsteins are badly rusted, like I expect the perch the spring sits on to break off, truck sits normally.
I stopped at my trusted local mechanic, he looked, said he’ll be ordering some new struts. I purchased truck with 25k miles, never thrilled about the ride, but it’s a truck plus the trd package.
The truck sees 95% street, i do load the bed with logs, I heat with firewood. I’d love to level it. Since I need new tires I wouldn’t mind slightly taller, same if not narrower tires. My concerns are ride quality, and reliability. By raising the front 2” with spacers or coil overs, I need new springs anyway, will I be putting stresses on ball joints etc?
Now, should I just go stock/whatever my shop orders, or buy idk? Bilstien 5100s all around. My shop told me they would install whatever I wanted but warned me that I need to do the research, they won’t be responsible if it doesn’t fit. Ideally id have super plush ride with the ability to wear slightly taller tires, on stock rims. All for 2k$. What do you all think?

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! Bilstiens are good and very popular on here. Give this post a little time. Over the next 24-48 hours you should get some good input, as well as links to other threads on this site. Try the search function while you are waiting to get a head start.

Thanks for replying, my gut says keep it all stock, I assume stock ride was more comfortable vs the trd. I think I got excited bc I knew I definitely needed new springs.

For my rear on my 07, which has had a cap on it it’s entire life, and towed frequently I went with the CB +1 rear shackles and 5160 shocks. That’s what I gather to provide the best ride from my research. I’m also going to be adding SumeSprings Blue.
For the fronts I’ll be getting 6112’s once they come in stock.

Thanks miles. My thought is the 6112s will be to stiff of a ride, I’m not ripping down fire roads. More of a pot hole on the Long Island expressway situation. My 14 mile round trip to work on surburban roadways I feel could be more plush.

It’s a truck and there are trade offs because of it. I personally don’t like the OEM suspension. It feels to mushy and bouncy. I went 6112/5160 and the ride got stiffer, what I wanted. Not going to get any more plush than what you have now. Looks like you said you need new springs, so basically you need a whole new coil-over assembly. People here always have OEM take-offs for cheap. Me personally, if I was staying stock, would buy OEM springs and Bilstein shocks. The regular OEM SR5 shocks will ride a bit softer than the TRD yellows.

Falcons are your best riding option without getting into high end 2.5s with resis which is overkill for your needs.
You’ll need to grab some take off springs since yours are about shot but those aren’t difficult to come across.
I have had Bilstein and Fox prior to the Falcons and they aren’t even in the same ballpark on ride quality or build quality.

Any Bilstein "upgrade" you get will ride similar to the ones you have... well, when they were new at least.

I'd go Rancho 9000. They make one with springs installed that is supposed to provide 2" of lift. They have adjustable damping so you can tune them to taste.

Eibachs are an option that should ride smoother on the road that Bilstein based on testimonials I've seen.

Do you have 18 or 20" rims? Anyway, look at 33-34" inch tires that are 295 wide or less.

EDIT: if you have the $$$ I'd advise adjustable Fox 2.5s custom tuned by Accutune.
