So, I'm trying to decide if I should keep the used ARE CX topper I got OR get a new Leer 180.

    1) The ARE CX I have now has lots of options (side slide windows with screen, front sliding and fold down glass, roof rack tracks, single latch). It's not color matched. It's flush with the roof of the cab. Bought it for $575 all told.

    2) The new one I've been eyeing is the Leer 180, which has about extra 4" height. I sort of like the look of the raised roof. This would probably run about $3000.

Use: I don't haul that much tbh. I do try to make time to camp out the back, so at 6'1" the extra height of the Leer would be nice, but not required. With the extra height I could also fit a mountain/fat tire bike upright without removing tires.

Yes, the new topper is steep. I could probably sell my old one for about $1200, so $1200 - $575 = $625. If I applied that to the new Leer, it'd be like $2375. (maybe I answered my own question...that's a lot of $$$ haha).

    Anyway, what y'all think?

    Pic of my current topper:

Pic of Leer 180 on Tundra (I forget who's truck this is on this forum, but thx):

Doesn't seem worth it to me. Could just be the picture but that 180 doesn't even look like it's any higher. I bet you could paint your current canopy for a lot less than $2300.

That depends. If you are anywhere near southern Virginia, you should sell me your old topper and get the new one. If not, keep the old one. :boink:

I had a Leer Hi Top on my 2002 work truck for about 16 years before it failed, Leer replaced under warranty at no charge, but they no longer made an 8ft Hi Top for the old truck.

I worked with the cab height Leer cap for a few days and realized that it was not going to work out, so I replaced it with a commercial ARE DCU High wedge with a full size (no tail gate) clam shell rear door.
It may not be the best looking cap (I added the Line-X), but it is more functional & user friendly than any other cap I have used. Bigger is better.

You’re on the right track, but really, if he’s in the Midwest, he should sell the old one to ME and get the new one :bananadance:

Doesn't seem worth it to me unless you keep searching for a high rise used and find one. Then and only then turn around and sell your cab height cap for a profit.

Or cut a hole in the top of the existing one and install a pop top.

Now that I look at the number in my post, it’s def not worth it. 4 extra inches may be useful for some things (heyooooo), but not worth it for $2000+ for head room.

Wrap or plasti dip if the color bothers you. With the black truck it makes it very cheap/easy to match.

Yeah, that’s what I decided to do. Think I’ll do a flat black and use the same color for the chrome bits in the T.

I have a Century High-C (identical to the Leer 180) on my latest truck. After crawling around in cab height toppers for over 12 years, the extra head room in this one is fantastic. I carry my bikes around in the back all the time and would always have to lower my seat to get it to fit, don’t have to do that anymore.

The only option I have on mine is a carpeted headliner, price was about $2100. The headliner is also 100% worth it, no more fiberglass splinters in my arms when I crawl around in it. Also looking forward to start camping out of it.

Only down side is it is pretty ugly, but I don’t care.
