Hello. I have a 2010 SR5 Crewmax. About two weeks ago I installed R1 Concepts crossdrilled/slotted rotors, brake pads all around, and new power stop calipers on the front. Did not replace rear calipers.I didn't do a proper bedding in process, but I have driven the truck roughly 600 miles since the change. I just noticed 3 days ago that when I hard stop or stop going downhill that I feel a slight vibration or grinding in the brake pedal. You can't really hear it, but I say grinding because that's just what it feels like. It doesn't do this if I'm braking easy or at low speeds. I also recently installed Bilstein 5100s all around with eibach pro stage 1 coils. The fronts are at the lowest setting, So it's basically up an inch or so to level. I did not get an alignment after doing this. No other sounds or problems, no steering wheel shake or squealing anywhere. Anybody have any ideas as to what my problem might be? Thank you

So this is zero point calibration correct? I've heard a few things about this before but never thought it could correct a vibration in the braking system. Is there anyway you can elaborate on how this would correct the problem, Or do I just need to try it and see?

Also, the vibration isn't comparable to the abs system initiating. It's a very light vibration.

Ohhh, OK. This might be something else then. Little surprised you didn't get an alignment after your suspension lift even though it was minimal.

Last time the wheels were balanced? The Tundra (and toyota's for that matter) are sensitive to unbalanced wheels and transmits it to the drive train/steering wheel. I was getting a slight vibration in my Lexus lately while braking. Yesterday I had the wheels balanced and took care of the problem.

New tires balanced in August. I'm beginning to think this issue is being caused by multiple things. The balance and alignment, that I didn't bed the brakes in correctly initially, and maybe the calibration. I forgot to mention the new rotors were coated black zinc supposedly that has already worn off. Also I didn't replace the rear calipers, at one point and time I was having a problem with the slide pins sticking due to lack of lubricant, and also they are the calipers that came with the truck when it was built. Other people have tried telling me the rotors are warped, but I don't believe that. But it does kinda seem like I can feel that vibration through the pedal as well as the floor board.

You will feel pulsations/vibrations in the pedal and also a sound associated with the slotted and crossdrilled rotors you have installed.

It is the edge of your brake pads "catching" on the edges of the slots which have been cut out of your rotors.

They also have to remove material from the rotor in order to perform this process. Removing material from the rotor will reduce its ability to act as a heatsink. This will cause the rotor to overheat and either change shape or weld the brake pad material to your rotor.

Some will say the slotted rotors will prevent the "warping" I am not in that camp

That kind of makes since, except my pads don't have a hard edge. The contact part of the pad is beveled with no hard edge so it's shaped like this .\_____/, probably 45 degree angle, so I don't see how the edge would catch. But I do see what you mean.im starting to think my rear calipers need to be changed. The vibration is really only in the pedal, and from what I understand, that usually has something to do with the rear brakes. Thanks for the advice though.

    Guess you got me.

Definitely no way I have experience with the noise and slight vibration which is a byproduct of slotted rotors.

Definitely did not bother my father enough to replace the slotted rotors he just had installed with blanks inorder to immediately stop the noise and vibration.

Carry on with your diagnosis sir.

Besides what’s already been mentioned, make sure your dust shields aren’t rubbing. Definitely go out and do the bed-in procedure. I did mine twice as was recommended for my pads. A series of hard braking without coming to a stop and then letting it cool, then doing it again and letting it cool.
